"What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger." ...says the guy who was food poisoned TWICE at the same restaurant. My favorite dish? Omelets
Salmonella in Eggs - Weighing up the risks In 2001 (the most current collection data available at the CDC), only 11.3 cases of Salmonella were found per 100,000 people. That is a percentage risk of only 0.0113%. Is there some under-reporting? Of course - mild cases probably go undetected. The 0.0113% represents the total risk of an average American including all sources of infection and all strains. So the infection from an egg, is even smaller. The issue is with food processors who process large batches of eggs, and it only takes one bad egg to contaminate the batch.
The risk isn't high, but it's real. "Back in the day" it was far more prevalent. At least that's what mother taught us. Never the less, we snagged samples when her back was turned. Now back to the fun stuff.
So many memories. From what I hear The Hawk I knew is no more. I will remember it just the way I left it as I extinguished the smoking lamp that final time. I wonder what happened to all the class memorabilia. We had to find a large piece of ceiling for ours, and I'm sure everything but the deck was covered by the time it was "renovated." I wonder if I could still get a Black & Tan?

"Back-in-the-day" when I was in the navy we had a whole lot of new guys cracking eggs for breakfast, I don't remember salmonella but I do remember that we could find egg shells in the scrambled eggs occasionally.
