I'm as upset as anyone about the M855 deal and I don't even shoot it. But lets keep it in perspective of the overall impact of banning this round. Let us suppose that,oh say, just 3% of the population has already secured an MBR to choot MBZs or Blue Beanie types(insert your own choice of bad guy here). That's 9,000,000 Mbrs in rifle calibers. If that 3% has been diligent they probably already have ,you know, maybe ONLY 1000 rds. for said tool. That's 9,000,000,000(nine beelyun) rds already out there. That figure is probably just a tad bit low too. Then figure that another 3 % have that "deer rifle" in the closet with MAYBE 100 rds squirrelled away. Another 900,000,000 (meelyuns) rds. usually sent downrange with the help of a somewhat decent scope. Haven’t even considered pistols,shotguns,muzzle-loader or Red Ryder bb guns. I don't think body armour being penetrated is their biggest problem. Seems our POSPOTUS and his minions along with all the zombie sheep are really our friends. They, after all, are just keeping us diligent in our pursuit of preparedness right?
Another interesting tidbit: EXCLUSIVE: Common AR-15 Green Tip Ammunition Already Banned in New ATF Regulation Guide - Katie Pavlich Anybody (you FFL holders out there) have a new 2015 ATF reg book lying around?
Just because it is written in some US Publication, does NOT make it a Regulation, or a change in ANY Statute. It MUST be published in the CFR, before it can become a Regulation, and then there is a "Waiting Period" that must expire, AFTER that CFR Publication. This has NOT happened YET, and until these steps happen, It is still just a proposal. Gad, Don't these writers know how Laws and Regulations ARE Made? Did they ALL flunk out of Civics 101? Sounds to me if ATF keeps pushing this, they will get slapped down by Congress, IF we shooters can keep the Pressure on Congress, on this issue.....
ATF Claims “Publishing Mistake” After M855 Ban in 2014 ATF Regulations Guide Goes Viral Just hours after Townhall’s Katie Pavlich exposed the fact that the Obama Administration had illegally banned some of the most common and economical ammunition for the best-selling rifle in the United States, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms was forced into a headlong, if temporary, retreat. The agency’s “error” was quickly fixed. Notice of Publishing Error On Feb. 13, 2015, ATF released for public comment a proposed framework, including legal and technical analysis, to guide its determination on what ammunition is “primarily intended for sporting purposes” for purposes of granting exemptions to the Gun Control Act’s prohibition on Armor Piecing Ammunition. This proposed framework is posted for public comment only; no final decisions have been made as to its adoption. Media reports have noted that the 2014 ATF Regulation Guide published online does not contain a listing of the exemptions for Armor Piercing Ammunition, and concluding that the absence of this listing indicates these exemptions have been rescinded. Please be advised that ATF has not rescinded any Armor Piercing Ammunition exemption, and the fact they are not listed in the 2014 online edition of the regulations, was an error, which has no legal impact on the validity of the exemptions. The existing exemptions for armor piercing ammunition, which apply to 5.56 mm (.223) SS 109 and M855 projectiles (identified by a green coating on the projectile tip), and the U.S .30-06 M2AP projectile (identified by a black coating on the projectile tip), remain in effect. The listing of Armor Piercing Ammunition exemptions can be found in the 2005 ATF Regulation Guide on page 166, which is posted here. The 2014 Regulation Guide will be corrected in PDF format to include the listing of Armor Piercing Ammunition exemptions and posted shortly. The e-book/iBook version of the Regulation Guide will be corrected in the near future. ATF apologizes for any confusion caused by this publishing error Bearing Arms helped echo the original Townhall article, which exposed that ATF’s “proposed” reclassification of common M855 ball ammunition as “armor-piercing” was already a fait accompli. The Office of Management and Budget must review and approve ATF Regulation Guides, which again, come out approximately every 10 years. This can take months and changes to Regulation Guides are not easily or often made. Because of the lengthy amount of time it takes for OMB to approve a new ATF Regulation Guide, ATF’s comment period is just for show. ATF officials and the White House have (and never did) no interest in actually listening to or considering comments that are currently being submitted. The exemption for the ammunition in question has already been stripped out of the regulation handbook moving forward and “green-tip” has been reclassified as “armor piercing.” The rules have been changed. Further, because of local rules and regulations in different states across the country having their own “armor piercing” standards based on ATF regulations, thousands of people in possession of AR-15 green tip ammunition have essentially been turned into felons overnight. The story hit the front page of the Drudge Report shortly after 4:00 PM on Friday, dominating the first two slots of the top right column. They still remain Saturday morning. The Townhall report that revealed ATF’s backdoor M855 ban went viral on The Drudge Report. This the "Classic" ATF "Open mouth, Insert Foot" blunder.....
Here is the ATF's actual memo from their web page, slightly different than BT's. http://www.atf.gov/sites/default/files/assets/Library/Publications/notice_of_publishing_error.pdf NOTICE OF PUBLISHING ERROR On Feb. 13, 2015, ATF released for public comment a proposed framework to guide its determination on what ammunition is "primarily intended for sporting purposes" for purposes of granting exemptions to the Gun Control Act’s prohibition on armor piecing ammunition. Media reports have noted that the 2014 ATF Regulation Guide published online does not contain a listing of the exemptions for armor piercing ammunition, and conclude that the absence of this listing indicates these exemptions have been rescinded. Jerry Miculeks video on the 855 ban was pretty informative. Just reinforces my belief that the attempt had nothing to do with "armour piercing" and all to do with an attempt to restrict the right of the citizens. Of course I'm just paranoid.
Pretty clear to me that it was a test run to see how much they could sneak in under the wire. I'm not paranoid, I know they are out to take all my freedoms away, what ever it takes and no matter how long it takes. Uhhh, did I just hear a knock at the door???
Very true. I mean, those high capacity clips for those evil weapons of war with the shoulder thing that goes up are dangerous and stuff. But it's okay, once they run out of bullets, they won't work in the ghost guns anymore.
........ Breaking News........ ATF announced this morning that they will NOT be going forward "At this time" with the proposed "Framework" that would have Banned the sale or Importation of SS109/M855 AMMUNITION..... They stated that they will be reviewing the 80K comments, submitted to date, and will keep the Comment Period, OPEN until March 16, 2015..... Couldn't have anything to do with a Majority of BOTH Houses of Congress, sending letters to ATF, threatening to pass Legislation taking Ammunition Manufacturing Regulation AWAY for ATF..... Naw, Couldn't be that...
And one of the funny parts, NBC headlined the ATF story with a pic of 22lr ammo. (I think they changed it, but yesterday that was the photo for the story.)
They will come back. Never dead. They will continue to use banks and credit card companies .., the financial institutions to which credit card processing happens to do the dirty work.
