Yes, that's the toughest part to control. Asking the people of Africa to refrain from intercourse for a couple months and actually having that happen is not exactly realistic. The men can transfer the virus up to 7 weeks as carriers, and that will start the spread of the virus all over again.

Now 660 dead and it's jumped another border into Nigeria's capital city.
Keep in mind this city has an international airport. [OO]

Incubation period varies from 2 to 21 days and then for up to another three weeks. So one can be contagious for up to six weeks. Think of how many individual persons one may come into contact with over that time period, and then all the people they might come into contact with.

    At an international airport. NO!!

I don't know how long the germs can survive without a human host, but I always think of the stuff people touch all the time. The TV show that had a 2parter dealing with a Marburg outbreak(which is what prompted me to do some research on hemorrhagic fever), it was terrorist-induced, and he did it by infecting himself, then cutting himself and smearing his blood on items that are touched constantly by people all day. ATM keypads(I'm really wondering how no one would notice blood on the ATM, but it's Hollywood), handrails on buses, etc.

So I wonder if the guy that collapsed at the airport, if he touched anything or anyone that will now be a carrier onto a plane, therefore potentially turning every passenger into a carrier as well.

The man that landed in the largest city in Africa and collapsed has been confirmed to be an ebola victim. Additionally....

In a separate concerning incident, the first person to test positive for Ebola in Sierra Leone's capital Freetown was forcibly removed from a hospital by her family.

Also keep in mind the WHO changed the manner of reporting how they count the death toll.

Nobody's including anyone NOT in any hospital. Between the distrust of doctors and hospitals and local customs for washing the bodies and eating a meal in the presence of the deceased the actual death toll could me much higher than reported.

There is a Report, yesterday, that the Lead Doctor, dealing with this outbreak, has himself, contracted the virus..... They are supporting him, with the Best Medical Treatments, known, so it will be interesting to see if he recovers.... If so, his Antibodies, may be able to be used to pattern a Vaccine.... Pray for his survival.....

According to the WHO it's up to 672 dead now. So probably double that considering all the people that never made it to seek medical care.

American doctor in Africa tests positive for Ebola - Yahoo News

BOONE, N.C. (AP) — An American doctor working with Ebola patients in Liberia has tested positive for the deadly virus, an aid organization said Saturday.

North Carolina-based Samaritan's Purse issued a news release saying that Dr. Kent Brantly tested positive for the disease and was being treated at a hospital in Monrovia, Liberia. Brantly is the medical director for the aid organization's case management center in the city.

Brantly, 33, has been working with Samaritan's Purse in Liberia since October 2013 as part of the charity's post-residency program for doctors, said the group's spokeswoman Melissa Strickland. The organization's website says he had worked as a family practice physician in Fort Worth, Texas.

The highly contagious virus is one of the most deadly diseases in the world. Photos of Brantly working in Liberia show him in white coveralls made of a synthetic material that he wore for hours a day while treating Ebola patients.

Brantly was quoted in a posting on the organization's website earlier this year about efforts to maintain an isolation ward for patients.

"The hospital is taking great effort to be prepared," Brantly said. "In past Ebola outbreaks, many of the casualties have been healthcare workers who contracted the disease through their work caring for infected individuals."

Strickland says that Brantly's wife and children had been living with him in Africa, but they are currently in the U.S.

A woman who identified herself as Brantly's mother answered a U.S. phone listing for him, but said family members are declining comment at this time.

The deadly disease has killed at least 672 in several African countries since the outbreak began earlier this year.

If they bring Ebola over to the U.S., especially out west, oh man. I don't even wanna think about it. Let's hope we can get some solid news on this situation, those involved who may have come in contact need to be quarantined for 3 weeks (I imagine), not allowed to return home. This can get out of hand really fast.

And based on the STDness it can do, alot of people should start stocking up on condoms too. We're probably gonna get some face masks next week, mainly in case of smoke from wildfires, but they also help when cleaning out the chicken coop.

I'm thinking abstinence is the best option. You keep moving down the road. If'n you stop and try to cross the fence, (key word try) and you be stopped DRT and I've got plenty of denatured alcohol and road flares to sanitize things.

    Its probably here already.
One can be contagious before showing symptoms. If the family and everyone they have come into contact with has not been isolated this can get ugly real fast.

It's interesting in a sad way that this might come to the U.S. via an aid worker. The road to Hell...

It might be time to dust off and re-purpose Sydney's old North Head Quarantine Station back to its original use of screening potentially infectious disease cases.

Air travel may become slower and more inconvenient if travellers have to be quarantined before accessing the general population from ports of departure that are affected by Ebola.
