@3M-TA3, I couldn't find anything other than they have 2 employees and made over $95,000 last year. There are 8 companies named Volant, none that I looked at were owned or operated by the same people.

    Reading elsewhere, I read this:

I would rather focus on the why he did it and how to stop it from happening again.

I am unsure if we will ever know or understand why someone would have that much evil and malice in their heart. But how do we stop this from happening again and again. Do not say make sure everyone is carrying a gun because this shooter was not directly at the event. This was an event of 22,000 people and there was some security but this was no help when the shooter was across the road. I do not want to stop my life and hide because then the bad guys win but how do we as a society put a stop to this? Can it be stopped or slowed?

This morning a local radio station was interviewing a lady that had been at the Aurora theater the night of the shooting. Yesterdays events had a psychical effect on her. She had crying, the feelings of feel revisit her. She has been traumatized for life because those around her were gunned down in the theater. Now we have 22,000 people who will be feeling those terrors when another incident like this happens again. It will happen again but what is a society to do?

Nothing can prevent this from happening again, even if firearms had never been invented. There are just too many ways to kill people - everything from fertilizer bombs in Oklahoma that killed 3x the Las Vegas massacre to sarin gas in Tokyo subways.

Nobody can guarantee you that they can keep you safe from every thing.

To prevent this/slow it down you need to get to the root cause, and that isn't equipment of chemicals. It's people. Why do some people feel they need to kill others they don't even know? Do note that these always take place in densely populated metro areas. What is different about life in these places that may give a clue?

All I can do is to make sure my AO is someplace less likely for these type of events to happen.

Lack in value of life. This guy was older, which was surprising. Many of the past shooters have been younger, which I always thought that many of the younger generation does not hold the same value on life. I have a hard time explaining it but it always seemed that the older generations held life as more sacred or something.

The older generations were closer to the reality of life as they typically had to confront it every day. We have flipped from being overwhelming rural to overwhelmingly urban. In the first half of the last century if you wanted meat for dinner you had to kill, pluck, and if necessary butcher it yourself. Now meat comes all nice and tidy from a grocery store. You knew your neighbors and each helped the other as necessary. Now you don't know your neighbors and get lost in TV and FaceBook. All your experience with blood comes from a video game.

    Overwatch with authority!
Thermal sighting system would have instantly recognized temperature variation of broken out windows. Armed shooter in broken window, instant call. You can bet that more venues shall be requesting LEO/SWAT Precision Marksmen to watch over future open air exhibitions. Homeland Security may even be tasked to provide Military Marksmen depending on the size of the crowd. It's going to have to be fixed, this is the new textbook scenario for soft target terrorism.

I have a friend who has been the GM of several large hotels and he tells me that for someone to have taken a room for as long as this guy did and refused housekeeping services for as long as he did, would have prompted a visit from the hotel manager and security. I see a lapse in hotel management protocol being somewhat of a contributor to this, and you watch the law suits start to pile up against the ownership of the Mirage.

Managers work for the owners and have a responsibility to protect the owners interests and property. For a tenant to go that long without guest services general indicates something is wrong.

High Rollers with Comped Rooms are only under scrutiny at the Gaming Tables in Vegas. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas has been the monetarily based mantra that has kept Vegas Lucrative. Vegas is the prime meridian of the "Golden Rule"! (ie He/She who has the Gold Rules)

If you are interested, photos of the shooters room have been released and are all over the web.

One, not quite from left field said the shooter was really aiming to damage the casino industry in LV. (locals say Gaming industry)
This is not a crazy as it sounds. The Clark County Commish was at the last presser (last nights) and made a big point that "Las Vegas is safe to visit" So anything that can affect tourism is scary as hell to the casino/resort owners.

The Austin City Limits music fest is coming up shortly. The event sponsers are opening offering refunds for folks who want to cancel. This giant street party routinely attracts 75K+ for each day to Austin during the event..

I agree 100%. The problem I have is that people like me look for the answers to questions by finding someone that knows what they are talking about. But with the way the younger generation is they just read what's out there. And right now all that out there is these idiots screaming false information and the silent majority....well being silent. I agree that there is no changing some of these people minds but as for letting them spout off with no voice for the other view point could be part of the problem.

Most fire alarm systems & devices installed today are tracked, just like an IP address. When a device goes off, we know exactly which room it activated in and what floor. Fire systems pinpoint where the issue is, exactly. The moment that fire alarm device tripped, it alerted hotel security of a fire/smoke event. Hence, when the police realized the shooting was coming from the hotel, the front desk already knew where to point them with a potential issue/shooter...... (from an FA installer perspective).

    Some thoughts needing answers:
Why do (most) of these people doing something like this always have so much left over? In this case, 40+ firearms (from a guy that according to his brother never had an interest in guns), stuff to make explosives, etc. It would seem to me that if you carefully plan something like this, and he clearly did, why not use everything? Why have bomb making materials and not use them? He probably knew he would be caught so saving for later isn't an option.

I just often have to wonder, and more in this case than others, how someone so far under the radar suddenly has an arsenal with a gazillion rounds and there is always a backstory that comes to light about the arsenal he still had at home. Why did the Sandy Hook kid leave a weapon in the car trunk? Why did the Colorado theater shooter leave so many rounds at home? And my biggest question of all: Why are politicians who normally take a full session to introduce legislation instantly have bills ready to ban (pick one) assault rifles, magazines, suppressors, gummi bears, etc.? I'm not much on conspiracy theory, but the empirical data is starting to make some of these things smell a bit like fish...
