Accidental Shooting?

Was there ever any mention of the distance from the shooter to victim? Given how much we all here probably practice in hitting a target at 5 yards, 15 yards, etc, what are the chances of you hitting a bullseye without aiming?
What I’m getting at is this guy was almost assuredly pointing the weapon at the victim.

 

Victims, he used the camera man as the backstop.
