I don't know if I could limit it to 4. However years ago I decided to consolidate calibers. The calibers we chose for our family are: 22 LR 7.62x39 308 9MM 357 Mag 12 gage 410 gage 90% of my firearms fall into the above category.
I do also have a 177 crossman pump pellet gun and a couple of tins of pellets. I cant hit squat with it unless im real close. My 981T marlin has the accuracy quietness shooting shorts and subsonics to eliminate a need for the pellet gun. I can however see the value of a good accurate pellet gun for varmint control. Mine sucks. KF
Pellet Rifle Education Please I can see the value of quietly bagging some squirrels, etc. Please share your likes as to which pellet rifles are best for those jobs. Are they the pump-up air pressure version or are they the CO2 cartridge provided pressure? Approximately what is a reasonable range for those pellet rifles?

Alternatively, 7.62x54R. Because the ammo is cheap, and so are Mosins. After all, a thousand bucks buy me an AR, a decent supply of ammo, and perhaps a decent reflex sight. A thousand bucks buys me 6 Mosin-Nagants, and over 1600 rounds of long-term storage ammo. Can't argue witn 9mm or 5.56/.223 My fourth would be .22 LR. The "small change of the apocalypse", a 50 or 100-pack of 22 would likely be the de-facto 10 or 20 dollar-bill-equivalent after a SHTF situation. . .
I don't think there are any that I could not do without. I have made choices of those I prefer, but if they were "not invented", I would obviously have made different choices. My 4 of choice are: 5.56X45 9X19 .22 LR 12 Gauge Along with .410 (shotgun), these make up my regularly used firearms...I also have a good number of 7.62X51 along with some .45 and .357, but the first 5 are those I have found most useful in my heavily wooded valley.
For me I'd have to sat .22LR, the cheapest most economical round ever .45acp the Best Handgun round ever!! Yes, I'm biased Tie between .223 the most common tactically used round & the 30-30win thats killed more Deer than anything else .308 both for long range hunting, & a need to reach out & touch sum one
Well my post on this one is really old. I never did get that Garrand and went back to another Ar-15. W e sold the 32 special and the .410 AS shells are expensive for both. So now we have : ,22 .223/5.56 30-06 20 Gauge and a 28 gauge 9mm I think we are staying right there. My wife liked the AR-15 so much she wants that Bushmaster ultralite 16 inch carbine in 5.56 /.223 When she gets hers we will have two of those in .223 Kf
