My middle name! And yes, I grew up hearing the tired old "Lancealot" joke.

Government robbery at it's finest. And I'd bet it all went to Ukraine, with ten percent funneled back to "The Big Guy"!

While it does seem like a huge tax payment, it's not nearly as big as it seems. Lottery winnings of that size are generally "take half now (less taxes at current rates)", or "get the full amount paid out evenly over the next twenty years (less taxes in effect in each of those years)". Most people take the 50% now option. So, it's really $1.02 billion reduced by $392 million, which is 38.43%. Still a lot, but not nearly as bad as it appears.

Personally, I wouldn't turn it down.

Also, Merry Christmas to the Monkeys!

IMO the winnings should not be taxed --lottery players take the risk, the government takes no risk and gets a big pay out every time

The IRS is a privately owned corporation operating out of Puerto Rico under the guise of the defunct Federal Alcohol Administration. Every penny collected which isn't absorbed by the Federal debt is channeled through the Vatican, from my understanding. And uh, they don't have laws controlling those guys, either. So, just to recap...there is no "government" involved, they take what they want and use it how they choose. For all we know it could be going to fund terrorism worldwide or line the pockets of the royal family in England.

When the European interests managed to finally regain control of our monetary system in 1865, it didn't take long for them to cook up a scheme to further enrich themselves. The Greenback truly was the only debt-free and wholly American currency we've had. Every single time besides, we've been indebted to private interests, from the First Bank all the way to today.

Now you know...the rest of the story.
