Every party does this. There is so much pork in our budget. Every congress critter has to prove their worth to the constituents back home so they can go back next round. Bridges to no where, funding for research, bills with some persons name back home, keep my base open. States and localities do the same with tax abatements and grants. Don't matter the color of the suit.

Governments have been buying elections since day one. I only wonder why the corporations took so long in getting the wage slaves to pay for them rather themselves? In the business world they call this "externalizing costs" Like when supermarkets fool people into packing their own groceries, or fast food outlets negate the cost of service and cleaning plates and cups by selling food you pickup from a window. Elections are expensive! But the only winners now are the corporate owners and their courts of upper staff and premium share holders.
Actually it was about creating a massive guaranteed consumer base for the medical industrial complex, the sickcare industry. They are the real winners, the pensioners simply paid for it themselves out of their taxes and by receiving less pension money in retirement.
