We finally managed to get our old 1930's wood cook stove, sanded, stove blacked, worked on and all set up. I have cooked a couple of meals on it, baked biscuits and bread and it is wonderful.
That is so beautiful @sarawolf. That stove looks like it is in really good condition. How was it baking bread? Did it take longer?
Yes, it takes about 40 min. in the cast iron, but is so unbelievably good and crusty. It has only one shelf and I think I can use a rack with legs on the bottom to give me 2 racks in the oven.Another thing to try out . Dh nows says we will use it as much as possible lol. It only took me talking about getting it ready to cook with for 9 years. I had to have help with it as it needed a bit of welding on the bottom that holds the main part of the stove.
Very nice Job, on that stove..... It will be all set this next Winter to supply Heat for the House, if required... A Great Prep.... Well done....
Excellent Job! I have one out in the garage and I have actually used it a couple of times, Their great to have when the power goes out. It's not as pretty as yours But as long as it works! I have a couple different sized water heaters; I'm going to try and make a gasification stove out of them and use the cook top on it. My neighbor is a pro welder he said he would help me out. I also have my Rocket Stove made out of Cast Refractory clay ready to install in my Greenhouse. I have an issue with my cloud settings on my phone I have to deal with then I'll post some pics!
@sarawolf -I am J-E-A-L-O-U-S! I wish I could have claimed the one from my grandparents home before they sold it. Man, these stoves are amazing.
Seen one like that in an old cabin up the hill.. May go talk to the guy that owns the cabin and see what he would want for it..
That is just an awesome stove, well done on the restoration!!! Finding a treasure like that would be fantastic!! Thanks for sharing.... and the bread looks tasty.
Very nice. We had a wood stove in the basement of our old farm house. Cooking was fun. So was chopping wood...at first.
Well done. I love cooking on a wood stove. I used to have one pretty much like the one in the picture. The first month or so I burned my self on it several times. Other then that, I loved it.
