For an update on this post, see here.

[IMG]If he had been a genuine rescue worker, he would deserve a medal. Mr "Green Helmet" is everywhere at Qana, rushing around pulling children out of the rubble, carting them to ambulances and even, on the front page of the Guardian, escorting "White Tee-shirt", who also performs his own cameo role, carting round the body of another unfortunate girl, emoting freely while he does so.

That photograph is credited to Nicolas Asfouri of AFP/Getty Images and the caption reads, "A man screams for help as he carries the body of a young girl after Israeli air strikes on the southern Lebanese village of Qana".

[IMG]"White Tee-shirt" is still "screaming" on the front page of The Telegraph, but in an altogether different location, this photograph attributed to Reuters. He also makes the front page of The Times and The Independent, in yet another location, with “Green Helmet” just out of shot.

The New York Times, however, has "Green Helmet" dragging the body of yet another unfortunate child from the ruins, this photograph attributed to Tyler Hicks of The New York Times. The caption reads, "Rescue workers recovered bodies at the scene of an Israeli air raid on the southern Lebanese town of Qana on Sunday".

[IMG]We also get one more shot of the baby dragged from the rubble – yet another pose to add to the many already published. This time, "Blue Tee-shirt" is standing behind the baby's body, holding its head up to make a more dramatic picture.

The picture itself is in Arab News with the caption, "A dead child, a victim of Jewish terror, is taken out of a destroyed building in Qana on Sunday. The pacifier of the child is seen hanging from the vest, a mute testimony to the innocent victim's tragic end." The photograph is attributed to EPA.

[IMG]A picture remarkably similar to that in The New York Times is also offered by Reuters, attributed to Zohra Bensemra. Its caption reads, "A Lebanese volunteer rescuer carries a child killed in the Israeli air raid in Qana." It looks like the same child, but "Green Helmet", seems to have swapped positions for the camera with "Grey Tee-shirt".

[IMG]Gulf News, on the other hand, has "Green Helmet" carrying the body of the girl shown in the previous post, but in yet another, slightly more picturesque location. This shot carries no attribution and the caption is not related to the picture. It refers to the cessation of air strikes by the Israelis.

[IMG]But the great tragedy for Qana, of which we are constantly reminded by the media, is that this is history apparently repeating itself. On 18 April 1996, the village was also visited by death and destruction. re-visiting the photographs of the time, however, who do we see at the centre of the action? Why, "Green Helmet" of course. This is a younger man, without his glasses, but recognisably the same man, in his now classic pose of handling a victim of an Israeli "atrocity".

His presence at Qana on Sunday, and his central, unchallenged role, cannot have been a coincidence. Is he a senior ranking Hezbollah official? If not, who is he?

    * * * *

    And here he is again!

[IMG]This time, according to Reuter's Zohra Bensemra, "Green Helmet" is a Lebanese rescue worker, watching "while a bulldozers clears away the rubble of a building demolished by an Israeli air strike in Sreefa, 18 miles (30km) south east of the port-city of Tyre(Soure)". The dateline is 31 July, 2006, at 10:37 am.

Doesn't Hezbollah have anyone else the media can photograph?

Or is he just one of the reporters friends who poses for pictures for him so he can sell his photos, maybe even a friend of several photographers?

If this guy is honestly a rescue worker, when the smoke clears, they should give him a medal or some recognition. If it's a friend of the photographer, then shoot the photographer and see if his friend will carry him out. If he is hezzi's front man, these aren't really that awe inspiring on the tragedy of the scene. I'd like to think he's actually a rescue worker. It would maintain some small amount of belief that there are some people there worth a crap.

I have some nice beach front property in Omaha you may be interested in. What is more likely, he's hauling around dead bodies, looking for fresh Israeli strikes, to carry a body away from the scene.

Really? How much you wanting fer it? I always dreamed of ocean view. :D There is only ability to comment on what you see and what you can glean. Looks like he's working out doing some help. Maybe when he finds any that are Israeli and alive, well he'll finish them off or capture them for information. Maybe he's keeping an eye out on where everything is placed so he can report back to his superiors so they can launch counter attacks. Maybe he's actually picking up the bodies and looting their pockets. There is so much that he can be doing, however what he is doing may just be as innocent. Nobody can tell from these pictures what he is doing except picking up bodies.

That is what I can gather. I could propose all kinds of 'what he's really doing', though he isn't worth my time as I can't stop his actions if they were questionable. I also put a faith, all be it maybe misguided, in that he is doing good. Not all that you see working to help remove bodies have secondary agendas. This could be wrong and all humanity may have died on the first attack in these Lebanese, though I don't see it. Let's just say I have some hope left that the human condition will improve.

You could be right, I could be right, or the bodies could be right. Who knows? I just put my thoughts and opinions out there. Besides if he is gathering live victims, that could mean he is trying to keep them alive so they will live or that they can go back and fight again. Either way, it doesn't make him a demon that needs to be done away with. If you were in war and your buddies got hit, then you would most likely help them to get out of there. After all, the bodies who are dead will be there. Whether he is doing so out of a humane sake or if he is trying to keep the hezzis going, he is doing what he is called to do. He looks like a rescuer and that's what rescuers do.

And past all hope, maybe one of those hezzis he rescues will have a change of heart and see that this guy put his life in danger to rescue him and in turn help to bring the fall of the hezzis. No telling. I can only speculate. Remember, war is hell and somebody has to move the bodies.

I'm just more cynical. I just can't believe this dude is in the right place at the right time, every time. I would believe he was carrying around bodies, looking for fresh strikes and film crews, to make world opinion force the Israelis back across their border.

That could be true Ghost. I am cynical at most times, though I try not to be so I'm going with the benefit of the doubt. Good propaganda he's got going for him if that is his true intent. Though as far as him being in the right place at the right time, well that could be the photographers seeking him out because of his bright orange vest. That alone could grab attention. The world loves a hero. Notice in the picture where he looks younger, no vest. He could have thought the same thing. That maybe if he is high profile he'll become a celebrity of sorts. Another thing is that if he is a rescue worker, they could pay him pretty good. After all, in those countries it is good to get a job and stick with it when the pay is good as opposed to having no job and no pay which will most likely get you stuck in the military and where you would most likely become a bigger target. I don't know if I worded that coherently, though I tried. Haha.

Though your thoughts are just as valid. He could indeed be wearing the vest to be high profile and seek out the cameras to add propaganda, which could work in hezzis favor. However I don't think after the nazi propaganda machine took off, that Israel is going to worry about that. As far as public opinion goes, I don't think Israel gives two rats butts. Only the vain really care what others think of them and as America as an example, we do things to appease the masses instead of securing safety come hell or high water. Israel may be already awake to the bull that the UN is up to and don't care nor need that to run their country. The UN is like a backseat driver. All you hear is nag, nag, nag and if you do follow their directions you most assuredly wind up lost.

It is well documented that Hezbolla and the PLO both stage a lot of these filmed scenes. They also store bodies in morgues and bring them out for pictures when Israel attacks.

Sounds like a propaganda machine to me. Just wonder if next time something like this is posted and there is a 'well documented cases' that he is doing it for propaganda, that also be included in the post so that there is no doubt as to whether he is a 'propaganda machine' instead of a 'rescuer'. Anyway you got my two cents on whether he was or wasn't. Now that we have confirmed he is indeed a prop-man then so be it. I'll fly over and kick his butt today. Oh wait, I stand by my past post that Israel doesn't care about propaganda.

Besides, the UN is all about propaganda and nothing more. Lazy no good for nothing SOBs who like to chit-chat while other countries and people actually do something to stop terrorists and the like. And of their world opinion. Wars aren't won solely based on opinion. If they are then that country just had better give up the fight because they have lost already. Shoot the liberals and the squimish, fight the terrorists and if the 'world' doesn't agree you should stand up to these thugs then screw them. Do what you gotta do to make the world a safer place. 'Safety through direct intervention. Nuke the idjuts.'
