One of the largest military formations I was ever part of was about 24,000 Marines at Camp Lejeune at the start of the Gulf War in 1990. I carried the National Colors, and with more than eight years in grade was the senior Sergeant on the field that day. It was an impressive mass of Marines from all across the base and Air Station. Now I hear that there are 25,000 National Guardsmen in Washington, DC, in February. The logistics of trying to feed that many people every day is mind boggling to an old maintenance officer. I remember being in the field and finding that another unit had left us Porta-John's that were full all the way to the top. I've seen Marines return from deployments who haven't bathed or had an opportunity to do laundry for more than a month. Twenty Five Thousand. Let that sink in. Consider the temperatures. The high in DC today was 34 degrees, and it will be 29 tonight. Just where do you house 25,000 military personnel from units all over the Country in the winter and not have them living in miserable, squalid conditions? How much toilet paper and baby wipes did they bring along? How much does it cost to feed them? Where do they all eat? I lived through some pretty cold and miserable times, but I was always a member of a cohesive unit that looked out for us and had prepared for us to be taken care of. Scenes of Soldiers sleeping on the deck in office buildings and in freezing parking garages don't give me a warm fuzzy feeling about the leadership of these units or their well being. I also know the creative mischief that comes with boredom. Could be interesting. I'm interested to hear any reports about the health and welfare of the military personnel on the ground in DC. They should all be home.
"Where do 25,000 National Guardsmen sleep in DC?" Anywhere they want? (Sorry, I couldn't help myself... ) And, yes, it's ridiculous. They should have been home a long time ago.
Didn’t you read the NEWS??? They were sleeping in the hallways of the Capital Building, until a bunch of CongressCritters complained, and they put them up in an open air Parking Garage.. Can anyone say “ Cluster F**K”...
Should be tent city on the Mall..... lets make it look like a real military occupation. Bunch of B.S. boys should be home, not prop's for a POS .GOV!!
Isn't Fakepeachment 2.0 over? WTF are troops still "guarding" the Capital from Trump? Thought he was playing golf and taking potshots at McConnell from Mar-a-lago? Leftists "win" election and "strangely" the US Capital looks like Cold War Moskva, Beijing or present day Pyongyang. Shockers. Get ready for a military purge.
Geez, I just had a thought...25,000 troops!... a division is 10,000+ troops...call it two full combat strength divisions...WTH? That must be costing a fortune? And, for what? Each one of those Yahoos have their own security team/unit and they need 2 divisions? What are they afraid of? ............ Oh. They're afraid of us. Yeah...come to think of it, maybe they should build a base right on the mall... EDIT: If we do not hear them pulling out this week then hang on to your hats. They're keeping them because the crap is about to roll downhill, probably new legislation that we won't like...and they know it.
Maybe! Been hearing rumors of something major in the works, I guess we will know when the politicians start wailing about all those troops still there, and they are not leaving!
They are in under ground Parking Areas on cots . and the timing of showers and WC are limited . The NG are being abused and USED !!! With NO Rounds and under fed , food is the crap , no full KP S
Used and abused --that's nothing new for noncoms- bet the officers aren't sleeping in parking garages. All those troops has the murder rate dropped in DC
Nuthouse Nancy should pay that out of her own pocket and time and a half for any time over 40 hr week. Not work week, any time that they are deployed past 40 hrs a week that would be 128 hours of overtime per week
"Nuthouse Nancy" I like that But, the REAL question remains what the hell are they still there for? I admit I'm starting to get nervous... Question: Did they or did they not actually cull those troops to see their political beliefs? I think it was the Wash D.C. mayor wanted to do this but do not know if it indeed happened. Like I said, I am getting nervous...
Maybe they are afraid of a military coup and they vetted all these NG troops for their loyalty to the illegal regime. I find it difficult to believe the rank and file military are Bidumb supporters.
I heard Nutbag Nancy said the troops will stay until Trump concedes to the election.. That will make the troops a permanent fixture in DC.
