Anyone tried VARAC for ham radio? it is an offshoot of the VARA modem for Winlink Express and is a keyboard to keyboard format much like JS8CALL, but appears to be more robust. I have played with it for a week now and am very impressed with the weak signal ability, and regularly have QSOs with folks I can't see on the waterfall.

It's another great tool to have for comms during less than favorable conditions and probably even SHTF scenarios. It allows communications with anyone like JS8CALL, but also allows for targeted contacts as well, upping the security of it a bit. It also has a "VMAIL" function that stations can store and forward for when the recipient comes online. It does have a bit of a learning curve but seems worth it as it is very feature rich. Here is one of the many videos from Youtube about it:

If anyone here wants to play with it, PM me and we'll set a time.
