I'm not saying this video is the end all be all of the discussion but it presents a clear picture of how these work. First off IMHO Trump artfully uses tariffs as the proverbial big stick. Many never come about due to the targeted countries bowing to the pressure. We have the largest economy in the world. We have a pretty big stick. I'll be posting other clips and articles but one I recently read stated something I was unaware of. We only import 15% of the 80,000 goods that make up the consumer price index.
These henny pennys crying about the sky falling either don't understand or are too lazy to do any research. Of course the lame stream "news" parrots don't count.

"We only import 15% of the 80,000 goods that make up the consumer price index."
I want to comment and make the specific point that those 80,000 goods that compose the consumer price index are not the total number of our imports. These are simply the goods that they track to give them the statistics to generate the index. I do wonder why only 15%, seems low to me, very low...especially since we import so much now.

I would like to know the total number of our imports compared to some other stats like compared to goods produced here and what those numbers were say in 1970s as compared to now. I'm busy this morning but will return to this topic as very interesting.

@Minuteman Thanks for taking the time to generate this topic and finding decent videos explaining it (will watch them later today). It is indeed very important, and we all need to understand the basics of what is happening as it will affect all of our wallets.

This guy drove 3 casinos into bankruptcy, Mexico did not pay for his promised wall, did not stop obamacre on day one, did not lower egg prices on day one.
His latest SCAMS with bit coin and his pals in Saudi Arabia will probably make him $$$$$

countries have been lining up to discuss their particular tariff problem with the US since Prez Trump announced it >>>> most are simply dropping their tariff - because - the uni-lateral tariffs are equal BUT the overall $$$$ involved are most certainly NOT ......

the inbalance & deficit involved is because of their exporting to the US - some of the countries are solely dependent on it - Mexico & Canada are the worst - they can't export to Europe and/or Asia anymore than the US can .....

Australia is another - most of South America is dependant on the US vs shipping to the world .....

You're right that we import a lot more than that. And the 15% does seem low to me as well. I'd like to see other reports and articles about it. But what I see over and over is one country after another backing down and eliminating or lowering thier tariffs. I don't believe it is the great depression 2.0 that the MSM wants to hype.
And as for Trump as a businessman. I hear the trope that he's a failed businessman. He filed for bankruptcy 8 times. Do a little research. His companies filed Chapter 11 reorganization which is a very common practice in business.
Of the 8, I believe all but 2 came back to full solvency and continue to this day. Pretty shrewd business acumen for anyone.
"Chapter 11 bankruptcy is a legal process that allows businesses and individuals to reorganize their debts while continuing to operate. It is primarily used by corporations to restructure their finances and pay creditors over time, often under the supervision of a court."

He took a million dollar loan from his father and built it into a multi billion dollar empire. That would be like one of us taking $1000 and turning it into millions. I don't know about y'all but I don't know anybody who could do that. So those who try to parrot the MSM narrative that he's somehow a failed, incompetent, businessman simply don't know or care about the real facts.

As long as we get rid of Taxes and go back to Trade funding of this nation, i'm all good!
No more of this tax the living shit out of every conceivable aspect of life ( especially the Blue States) income taxes, property taxes, and all that, drive the wages back down to reasonable along with the rest of the economy, and stop producing pickup trucks that cost over 100K new! Make America Affordable Again!

"But what I see over and over is one country after another backing down and eliminating or lowering their tariffs."
I was listening to Hannity on my drive back from town and he went on and on and on about all the countries that have or are reducing their tariffs against us, all the companies that are now opening new manufacturing here in the US of A (close to $5 trillion now), and even the UK who is looking at doing some special trade deal across the board (I didn't quite understand it so don't ask me to explain it yet). He went on so long that I damn near changed the station! I am no economics genius, but I do know the US market is one of the biggest in the world and if you consider the amount of 'disposable income' of our citizenry - well - I would bet we are the biggest. You just do not see the same wealth across the board even in Western Europe middle and upper class. You just don't. I have no doubt the nation will be much, much better off after Trump's policies take effect. I'm absolutely sure of it.

What I'm also sure of is that the Left knows this too so why are they putting on this stupid song and dance? We will see major changes within 1-year at which point they will have a lot more egg on their face, and they know this, so why are they doing it?

Eggs? Really? I guess if you want to hold the President of the United State responsible for chickens getting sick, but I will say that the price of our eggs has dropped by about 50%, still not back to normal yet but getting there. Mexico didn't pay directly for the wall but it sure as hell paid via other means via trade. Congress passed Obama Care and Congress must remove it. Divorce rate for first marriages is 40-50% in the USA to include me and about everyone I know so I don't think I would or could criticize him for that unless you include the other 50%...

But, regardless, what does all this have to do with him being a good President? For every negative you listed, some of which I think are pure speculative and some others that don't pass the logic test, I could name 5 positives, more. I mean, Bit Coin seems to make as much sense as our own national dollar does to me as both are base on...promises? Personally, I am not interested in it but maybe I should be because many folks are. However, what does being divorce have to do with knowledge and ability to run the country? I mean, I am more interested in him filing Chapter 11 and working to pull those companies back from the brink and making them profitable again and the fact he didn't give up even when he lost THAT is what interests me for a person filling the post as my President.

Sorry, I do not understand TDS but I think you definitely got it.

Like those 2,000,000 illegals given those 150+ year old social security numbers which then allowed them to pull federal benefits and to “VOTE”. Something tells me they sure as hell did not vote republican.
Yes, Trump had his failed business ventures and four bankruptcies, which he overcame and persevered.

Oh yeah, that has me screaming bloody murder! WTH is that? That has to be answered and there is definitely NOT enough coverage about it. Some SOB need prison time for that. How the hell is that even possible? They had to have someone on the inside, maybe selling them...

Absolutely AGREE! I'm torn between wanting them to dance the hemp two-step, or feel the sweet kiss of Madame LeGuillotine. Maybe both side by side. (y)

Oh, yes! A public execution with Madame Guillotine, please! Afterwards, I would bet we would see many of those currently in Congress resigning asap... LOL!!!
