Here a video from last night slingshot fishing video not the best because of the dark but I ended up with 2 nice gar.
Do you eat them? I used to until i heard they were heavy with mercury (which is cumulative in your system too). Had a recipe where you cut the heads off and gut them, then chunk steak cut them about 3" thick. Boil in salted water with crab boil seasoning as well. Boil them 45 minutes or so, then shuck meat out of shell with fillet knife. Plate the chunks and serve with melted garlic butter. They were always quite tasty, ....... just got scared off them because of the mercury thing. Any idea on the status of mercury in the fish is now? ..... NICE VIDEO, dark or not.
Yes we eat them and I really don't worry about the Mercury I worked as a shark Fisher man for a while and ate a load of sharks if I got any Mercury in my system it came from them I don't know how the Mercury is in the fish now but I know if we get any real amount of rain the deposit will close the waters for clams and oysters
Supposedly bottom feeders such as carp, suckers, catfish get the mercury from eating stuff on the bottom. Larger prey fish eat the appropriate sized bottom feeders. It passes from one eater to the other with a cumulative effect. Large barracuda used to be a prime example. Small barracuda no problem. ............. I read too much .... lol
