Nuclear scientist Dr Phil Mason on Russian maintenance of their nuclear weapons, or the lack there of.

The US spends 10 billion per year on nuclear stock pile maintenance, or around 10 million dollars per warhead per year.
Russia supposedly has more warheads than the US but only spends around 60 billion per year on all military spending. Are they spending 1/6 of their budget on the nukes, probably not, it's likely to only be a few % of that 60 billion.
Turns out a lot can go wrong with nuclear weapons, even more so with thermonuclear weapons.
So they have a few choices. 1/10 ass or less maintain all of them or most of them, half has maintain a thousand or several hundred or so, properly maintain a few dozen, maybe a hundred?
Then which ones do you maintain, the very expensive but most bang for you ruble strategic thermonuclear weapons or more likely to use, simpler, potentially defensive and offensive tactical weapons?
Or because you are a corrupt military industrial complex oligarch you just pocket the rubles?

Or worse...they attempt to fire one and it cooks off in the silo...Putin would accuse NATO of an attack, justifying a full on strike against NATO targets.

Putin considering his nuke weapons as just another weapon in the quiver to be used as necessary - bad enough - but Biden and the especially the NATO think tank, thinking a likewise reprisal attack on Russia is OK because of some reported radiation or gas drift over >>> that's just pure 100% looking to start WW3 - challenging Putin with such stupid azz BS is just plain ludicrous ....

and NATO coming out and saying THEY ARE the decision-maker on whether the US uses weapons of mass destruction >>>> SINCE WHEN ??????

hate to tell Biden - if Taiwan puts up half the fight the Ukrainians have >>>> China will be gassing them - releasing some short term killer bioweapons - or - use a few tactical nukes to finish off the defense fast & loose >>> NATO won't be there to make any decisions and Biden's big boasting against Putin needs to carry to anywhere in the world ....

Putin doesn't have to use a nuke against Ukraine or NATO, he could simply test one at an old Soviet test range. That would rattle the cages of world leaders and ruin a lot of expensive shoes when they fill up with shit.

.. .. any testin in Space in da atmosphere or underwater would be a violation of da
Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty uv 1963 which has been signed plus ratified by da US and da ruskie s

.. .. uv cuz da ruskie s is reel gud at violatin treaties plus agreements .. .. dey jus violated all da Ukraine agreements in 2014 plus 2022 .. ..

china aint signed it .. ..

north korea aint signed it .. ..

Saudi aint signed it .. ..

France aint signed it .. ..

underground testin aint covered .. .. if da ruskie s did pull a stunt wid an underground test dere would be yuuuuuuuuuuuuuge condemnation plus new sanctions methinks .. .. plus if dey do an underground test dat would force us to respond or open da door fer da US or US allies ta conduct an underground test of our own .. .. dat would not be gud fer any folks anywhere downwind of da tests .. .. cuz dey usually leak .. ..

da Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty aint in effect .. .. it aint been ratified by all of da Annex 2 members .. ..

Russia doesn't need to use nucs all they have to do is hit Chernobyl with a few missiles and claim they went out of control. Contamination would be every where

I think the important question is, do we really want to find out what sort of condition their nukes are in? I'd just as soon NOT.(n)
