Gomer Pile was favourite viewing, back in the day, when we only had B&W TV.

Instead of a minute's silence.....a minute of "Golly", and "Shazam".

I liked the way Gomer deals with bullies....

That episode must have been written by snowflake, socialist, liberal pacifist script writers.

I'm sure that Jim Nabors' marriage partner, Stan Cadwallader will grieve the loss of Jim as much as any heterosexual marriage partner might theirs. They were companions for some 38 years when they married in January 2015. EXCLUSIVE: Actor Jim Nabors marries his longtime male partner

Gomer Pyle, USMC was my favorite show as a child. Jim Nabors was a class act who lived a long and good life. I miss his brand of comedy - clean, not viscous, just funny. RIP, you have earned it.

Indeed. Not only was Nabors an effective actor, he was also an accomplished singer....with a strong, baritone voice, the antithesis of Gomer Pyle's diffident, self effacing, character.

I enjoyed his humor and his voice and didn't care what he did in his private life as he kept it private and never was in our face about it. He had the gift of taking an ordinary event and making it funny as did Red Skeleton, Lucile Ball, and others of his day, and I miss that style of humor.

Would that openly hetero-normative actors / celebrities kept their sexuality private, and were never in our face about it....openly smooching, cuddling, holding hands, behaving salaciously, and showing public affection. They should just do us all a favour and closet themselves. Just sayin'.

JIm Nabors packed a lot into his life, maintaining popularity over a lifetime of entertainment; that he didn't offend the sensibilities and sensitivities of hetero-normative folk would seem to be the least of his accomplishments.

The US Marine Corps recognised Jim Nabors (aka 'Gomer Pyle') over the years by making him an honorary marine, and awarding him honorary promotions.

I still remember the first time I heard him sing. It was so unexpected because all we knew about was his Gomer Pyle character.

Folks, this thread is about paying respects to an actor, comedian, and singer that has touched us all. Please be respectful and leave politics/social agendas/etc out of it. It's just not fitting and beneath us.

Agreed....though it is difficult when some, disdain and disrespect all that he was. Above all he was a human being who demonstrated more humanity to others than some of him. An enduring, loving, partnership of some 40+ years is an achievement that many couples might marvel at and aspire to.

Jim Neighbors was, like many actors of his era, quiet about his politics and private about his personal life. I never recall his bashing of anyone or threatening to leave the country if someone was elected to an office. A class act among many from that age of entertainment.

He was a good entertainer and a fine singer. Far as I am concerned, his "relationshlp" was his own business. He never threw it into the public's face, as too many of today's celebrities do. He was a class act. RIP, Mr. Nabors.
