Back in the day, when I was a young lad, my family lived in my grandmother's home while my dad was building my family's first residence (a garage with the most primitive of amenities).

My grandmother's house was built in the 1930's..an asbestos cement sheathed bungalow with a corrugated iron roof. It did not have an electric or gas hot water system...baths were heated by a chip heater...an iron stove with a flue, into which was burned wood chips, paper, cardboard and just about anything flammable. It was cheap to operate, and did the job.


This is something similar, except that it had a chimney flue that took the combustion gases outside of the bathroom.
