How many of you like old guns? I do. I have and shoot two,32-20,two,44-40,two,.41 mag,Two,45 colt ,one,38-40 and two .45-70. I have two Springfieldtrapdoors, one Remington rolling block, one winchester hi-wall. The rest are single action revolvers.I have newer guns but don't shoot them as much as the older ones.

I have nothing quite that old.
A 1917 Enfield and a Garand. A replica Cap and Ball revolver and a Muzzleloader that I occasionally hunt with.

My dad had an 1892 Winchester in .44-40 that I fell in love with as a kid. Ammunition was scarce and expensive. It seems ammunition for those old calibers is more plentiful today. Was recently at a gun show that seemed to have ample supplies. Didn't have much other ammunition.

A lot of the old guns were very well built. Most were hand fitted all machined parts and you can feel the difference when working to actions.

Think it was mfg. around the late 1890's

I keep my eyeballs peeled for additional model 8s. But most of them are pretty used and well loved but they want museum prices for receivers drilled and tapped multiple times that are basically parts guns that shoot most of the time. Local pawn store has had a swiss cheesed receiver shooter on their rack for 4 years at 800 bucks. Not budging on the price. The tried selling it on gunbroker, no bites. I keep offering them 375 a couple times a year, but they are not biting either. Methinks they assume they have a rare piece.

While mine 'looks pristine' it was actually refinished sometime in the 1950s and it's collector value went to nada. even with it's super early serial number, it's just a shooter now.

If I want to appreciate a gun and it's history then it's a old gun all the way. If I need a tool it's a new(er) gun.

One thing to note about old guns. Make sure you have spares parts. In my case Firing pin. These were notorious for breaking on a moderate round count.

For me, it's Three, and really ONLY three rifles, the M-1855 series Colt side hammer rifles in any of the hard hitting calibers from .44 to 54, (especially the "Frontier Carbines in .50 Cal) The early Remington Mod 8, in .30 Remington or with the Ed Shillin .308 Barrel conversion! Lastly, the Winchester 1895's in the two hardest hitting calibers there ever was, .30/06 and .405 win!
For pistols, any early Colt, from the 1848 pocket through the New Army 1st and 2nd model ( Dragoons) and the 1858 Remington. Also, any of the large framed Schofields, 44 Russian or .45 Colt, or the earlier Webbly break tops in both .44 and .45 calibers, and lastly, the LeMat combo pistols and carbines! Only new one that fits with the old girls is the newer Ruger Old Army, single action black powder perfection, hits like a freight train and is super slick, can shoot anything you load in the cylinders and is accurate as hell!

IF you can find parts! I had an early model Colt Woodsman and only had one magazine for it. I tried for years to find another magazine...I looked at gun shows and online, but nada! Thought I had gotten lucky several years ago when I found some after- market magazines, but they were crap that wouldn't feed. So, I didn't shoot it, which was a shame cause it was a sweet shooting little gun that seemed to want to shoot bullseyes! Aiming it was like pointing your finger! Finally, a few years back I found a magazine online for $125... and after thinking it over for about 30 seconds, I bought it! Now I have 2 magazines and can shot more often.
I got lucky, but the rest of y'all might need to befriend a machinist that could make replacement parts for your guns. Everyone needs to have replacement parts for their guns, especially those that are prone to failure. Also, you need to reload if you are going to shoot old guns. There are a lot of pluses to shooting those old guns in odd calibers; #1- You can use cast lead bullets. #2- You can use black powder. and #3- Lack of a paper trail.

I don't know that this fits here, but I just bought a 1954 FN High Power on GB. I've been wanting one manufactured in 1950 my birth year, but I settled for close enough.
I'll go through it, change out the springs and remove the mag disconnect and it's going to be my edc at my place.
I think it's still "King of the Nines" even though modern firearm technology has passed it.
For some reason I shoot a High Power better than most any other handgun I've owned and these days I'll take any advantage I can get.

Any John Moses Browning design is fully qualified to be in any thread about guns regardless of the thread subject.

    TRUTH!
I would also say anything Sam Colt or Oliver Winchester designed and manufactured, and anything pre war Remington.
Extra cool would be the English Rifles, Jeffrys, Holland & Holland, ect.

BTW, i'm surprised nobody is sharing the gun porn, so I will!
Here is my most favoritest of all my hunting rifles, a 1923 H&H in the one and only caliber these should be in, .375!
This one was a concerted effort betwixt my self, Grand Dad and Grand Mom, it was a shelf grade nothing fancy rifle that had been used and abused. Took it all apart and threw half away! I did the metal work and bluing ( With Gramps watching like a Hawk) and Grand Dad did the stock, while Grand Mum did her best checkering!

Looks as good as it shoots, blew the chamber out to .375 Weatherby specs after hunting it a few years, dumb kid that I was wanted more power, like thats' ever a bad thing, ( Though the 55 pounds of recoil ain't for sissies), and it gets hunted most seasons regardless of weather! This thing shoots little .375 diameter bug holes all day long!

And, while were sharing, here's another fav. my .500 Jeffery!
Built like the Zelous dangerous game rifles, but using a Daumoline Mauser 98 Magnum receiver instead of the commercial Mauser magnums. Danny Peterson cut rifled barrel and one of the last stocks Grand Dad ever carved! Recoil ain't as bad as the .375, but you still know you got a magnum on the shoulder!
