OK, my first kill of the year, saved me $500 - $1,000 in vet bills when one of my dogs decides to play with it... Rattle Snake 0517 Head by azrancher posted May 18, 2017 at 20:46
YUMMMMMMM, Rattle Snake Stew!!! Add a few more and have the makins for BBQ Pulled Snake Sammich I love your work, sir! Well Done!
Yeah but look at the dent I put in the concrete, remind me next time to use a shovel, not an axe. Rancher
How did the axe hold up? Did you lose a chip out of it? Shovel? You made of money? Don't swing to vigorously like swatting a large fly. Handles tend to break if wood. Fiberglass reinforced handles, not so much, but damn if they can't vibrate that shock right back to your hands or shoulders. Nice rattlesnake (dead one).
An axe is too close.... Shovel may be too... Maybe a Hoe with a long handle or a .22 rifle with snake shot. I hate snakes........
We don't get that many up here, but a little further south, we get plenty. My dogs went through snake training just to be sure they don't get bit. My Golden has enough sense to avoid nasty stuff, but the Neufy back when he was a pup would surely gotten into all sorts of bad stuff like this.
I've been overly cautious this year. Last year I killed a copperhead in the yard one night, about 2more steps and he would have had me. I surprised myself by hitting him right on the head, while half drunk with a 4 foot piece of angle iron. I don't like snakes, especially the poisonous ones.
