Just got my copy of the dec/jan mother earth news mag..its pretty close to zero outside and the wind is blowing: this is a pretty good issue to check out if you are in a "homestead"(Y) inside frame of mind articles on: extending your garden season solar heating/ building a stand alone "collector shed" simple hard chewy crust/soft-inside european style home baked bread using a dutch oven inside a conventional oven. Cold weather makes me hungry for fresh hot bread and butter . No jokes about a ballistic tactical apron being at the cleaners please....best chefs in the world are men ( I'm guessing but there's a 50% or so chance I'm wrong on that one.)...
You're talking my language Tango. The heel of the loaf, crusty, warm, oozing with butter. I've been baking my bread for the past 30 yrs, inspired, no doubt, by my grandmother who would always give me the first piece hot from the oven.
