Unfortunately, in my area it's been sold out for years. The local rednecks buy it from their friends who work at these local stores and then resell them for a profit. Oh well, making a buck (even at 300% profit) is very American. Eventually, the supply will exceed demand. If we're lucky. Sure would be nice to pick some more .22 up to burn, though. That stuff is more valuable than gold, and the tens of thousands of rounds I have from 2009 and earlier aren't gonna get burned at the range until I can replace them with more --at a reasonable price.
I went to Cabela's yesterday to pick up my previous order that had just arrived, so went back to the ammo section first just in case they had some in stock. No bricks, but there were a half dozen 1,200 round buckets at near the same price per bullet I grabbed one and the rest were gone about 30 seconds later. Plenty of smaller boxes in stock, though at much higher relative cost.
I have seen Ads, at one of my Distributors, for Remington Bucket of .22LR for $.10/Round (1400 rounds) for over a year.... This one is in @kellory 's State...
Another trick if anyone has a Dicks Sporting Goods near them: They get ammo in every Thursday evening and stock shelves after COB. Friday morning at the "crack of dawn (usually 630 to 7 AM) people start lining up outside. It is usually pretty orderly at least here in AZ cuz everyone is "carrying". At 8AM with the store opens everyone calmly goes up the escalators to the second floor and lines up at the gun dept. Usually limit to a bucket of 1400 or 2-3 500rnd bricks or any other bulk pack (9mm 40SW 45 ACP.....)
Out here Dick's allows their employees to make purchases before an item hits the floor. Guess what never makes it to the shelves but does show up on back page and in the for sale section of the gun forums? As we say out here, "Dick's is named after their employees". Retired guys line up at the Bi-Marts (regional chain) at opening and bee line back to the gun counter where they can still get $20- $25 bricks, then flip them at $45 and above, I've even seen $65 bricks. Nice thing, though is that Bi-Mart limits the bricks to one per day or the first guy would clean them out every time.
The last bucket I saw was at Rural King, and that has been at least a year or more. We still have small box limits, and at $0.10 each, I'll keep looking for better. As I find them, I buy what I can.
Last summer I sold Bricks of Remington .22LR for $70US... No one in Juneau had ANY .22LR, at the time, and when they did, they were going for $90US....
