Not an Aurora display, but something completely different - and 'new'.. But STEVE, formally known as Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement, is different. In the Northern Hemisphere, the phenomenon is visible from areas farther south than a typical aurora, and it looks like a ribbon of pink or mauve light. Sometimes, STEVE even has a "picket fence" appearance, with green columns of light passing through the ribbon. Auroras, by contrast, usually are shimmering green ribbons. (That Weird, Aurora-Like Phenomenon Called STEVE Finally Has an Explanation | Space) Plenty of amateur video now hitting UTOOB. Search for "STEVE aurora like display" I get real 'Northern Lights" here in Alaska - those further south may get a glimpse of STEVE - pretty awesome and now that the magnetosphere is on the decline, you are more likely to see this in the southlands. This is your Science minute for today - enjoy! This does have implications you-all should at least be aware of going forward..
The officer bar Brady camp says there's nothing to see move along, it was always there we just didn't notice it before. Go back to your face chat.
