Prayers to all the souls aboard, an absolute tragedy! Looks like the P-39 lost visual in the turn and ran right smack into the center of that B-17! There was no chance at all for anyone on ether aircraft!
Pilot Error for the P-39 Pilot… Lost situational awareness of his flight and the surrounding Airspace…
No Survivors! The P-63 Never even knew, never even registered in his mind! One minute he is flying along, the next, he is Cleared Direct, Priority Approach to Heaven, Runway #1, Full Stop! The Crew of the B-17 likely exceeded the climb rate of that aircraft on their way up to the gates of Heaven! Prayers to All!
Air traffic control over the AIR show is to conduct eyes of craft in the drome and call out there placements within the ship they are addressing. They do to me and I can crab the machine well enough to look port and starboard while still on a descend and forward flight . Rotary Wing (No-Tar).. Controller also dropped the ball Sloth
The day may be approaching when they may have to ground those old warbirds, that or lose them all in accidents. They should immediately stop flying planes in mock combat situations or close formations! Last week, the Confederate Airforce (aka CAF) was in Huntsville for an air show, and they had a B-17 and P-51.
This is a REAL BIGGY, A lot of the blame here rests with both the Air Boss AND the FAA for approving this flight plan! They should NEVER have allowed that many aircraft in the same airspace at the same time in such a tight pattern, they should have never had multiple aircraft operating at such a disparity of speed and restricted maneuverability! I also note from recent events involving these "Foundations" is that they are all a "Good Ol Boys Club" and they seriously lack maintence, ongoing training, and operating authority, they are allowed to operate under certain "Part" considerations and that needs to be examined much more closely! Both the Collins Foundation B-17 9 Oh 9 and now this Confederated Airforce B-17 Texas Ranger, were NOT in compliance with their "Part" or it's Exceptions/Variances, and here we are! This Must be addressed NOW! Confederated Airforce has Crashed and destroyed a bunch of super rare airframes since they started, including the only airworthy Martin B-26 Marauder!
