Looking for advice for a good portable grill/griddle.

Wife and I have been talking about doing a lot more camping and our last camping trip we really missed being able to have a grill or griddle.

I'm not looking for anything huge a 17" I believe it enough for the wife and myself but I'm here to learn so if you have any advice please tell me . I feel I would like one with the lide holds the temperature better and less use of fuel.

Is spending money on the legs worth it? Also grill or griddle? What your feelings? I'm looking more towards the griddle seems to have a little more versatility. Also I would like it to run off propane.

Blackstone Makes some of the best there is these days, Reasonable priced, and about as tough and reliable as any! Been runnin them on the BIG boat for several years, and I carry a ultra lite in the plane when we Plane Camp in the bush, nothing even comes close!

 

Good survival topic. How do you prepare food, boil water, etc, when power is off. Long term or short. Propane is so easy, but it is not long term. Camping is perfect time to check out survival stoves. No power, portable, easy to use, safety in storing fuel between uses, safety in use, ie propane does not create as much smoke as wood nor as much carbon monoxide as charcoal, thus safer to use in doors. Have a lot of good posts on the subject on blog.

Very good topic for a beginner or a seasoned prepper. Use small propane for short term portable and wood stove for long term. YMMV as I don't know your location. Do you want the flavor of charcoal or ease of use of propane. Simple question, lots of answers, kind of like life.

 

I've had a lot of stuff over the years. I'm down to cooking magic over an electric hotplate, a campfire coffee perk, and a 9" cast iron pan.

That's all I take camping/traveling anymore. And yes, I am not humping through the bush for days on end. This is vehicle borne gear.

 

We have a pit boss griddle and love it. For grills we have a green mountain pellet grill. Its awesome.

 

Ditched the grill in favor of a griddle years ago. Propane version. Homebuilt.

 

I have a volcano grill I " acquired" from a family member! I would never buy one! It rusted really quick from just one year of use.

 

You sound a lot like me! I enjoyed the outdoors does not mean I have to be miserable!

I have camped out in Big Bend National Park in places because I was a Ranger there I know about tucked far away in to the beautiful country. Well I wanted to be rugged and only took a small stove to boil water. Mistake!

Not that I care that I had a lot of nuts and not cheap ones talking from nut.com and granola. We only made tea with that stove.

Hot eggs and bacon with potatoes would have been so much better!

 

I like your thinking! Why propane is because it's easy to use and I can buy the fuel cheap and not have to worry about weather issues when I'm just looking to enjoy myself.

I have several BBQ's and fire rings at my home. I live on 20 acres of Texas mesquite so fuel is not to hard to find.

I'm looking for something that is fast easy to use! I also have to go to training this months and it's in a secluded area they supply housing but food is a 15 mile drive to some dump restaurant that will cost me more for one meal then it will cost me to make my own food for the three days.
