So I bought the lever action today it's a Rossi 92 with the threaded barrel and coating. I'm setting it up for my wife to used around the land as we have snakes and hogs. I'm wanting to get her a comfortable sling as most of the time she is going to have a dog on a leash (She feels more comfortable with the carbines then a pistol tried the pistol)does not have to be anything fancy mostly looking for comfortable more then any. Thanks.
When I was hunting with my M92, I had a simple sling that looped over the barrel and stock. Nothing much, but it worked. There are lever action sling kits which consist of a 2 part clip that goes over the magazine tube and a screw for the stock.
Of course you do what you want with your own gun, but I've agreed with the sentiment that Marlins take slings ok, but Winchesters are better without them. I would prefer to use a scabbard to carry it.
These set ups work well. If one of these are used use a drill bit that matches the screw diameter, not the threads. Drill as perpendicular as possible to the bottom of the buttstock and a little deeper than the screw length. Lube the screw itself with floor wax or the like and then carefully twist it in by hand. If the two halves of the clamp are loose when tightened to the magazine tube they may be closed up by carefully draw filing the inner flat edges and that should close it up nicely. Use blue or green Loc-Tite if desired where needed.
I've always preferred the Boonie Packer Safari sling for hunting/field work. It's quick and handy and makes carrying in a close to shooting position very easy
