And on camera Grandmother says she watched officer shoot girl, 7 - Yahoo! News Gun pointed at a child with finger on the trigger = NO EXCUSE Since the TV show Cops it seems that each department tries to out extreme the one before
And did the camera catch this child murder on tape? Did someone grab his gun as he claims? Was there even anyone close enough to have bumped him? run the tape. Either way, a 7 year old child is dead, and that is unforgivable.
Unbelievable. I see no possible excuse for the events leading to this child's death. The officer involved in the shooting should be fired, at the very least, if not prosecuted. His finger shouldn't have been inside the trigger well until he had a hostile target at which to shoot. Claiming that someone bumped your arm is a pathetic excuse for irresponsible gun handling. The department itself shares some serious blame as well, for apparently doing no surveillance prior to the raid; and the fact that a "raid" is the initial response needs some review. It seems that if they had the home surrounded, an officer could have just walked up to the door and said, "Excuse me ma'am. We need you and your granddaughter to step out of the house. We need to speak to Mr. Owens." This testosterone laden style of policing may make good reality shows on TV, but it makes for poor policing.
The precedence for handling arrests any more was first brought to light with Ruby Ridge and Waco. Traffic stops on the perps while traveling into town was all that was needed, but Nooooooo.
Careful now....you can't criticize law enforcement OFFICIALS on this forum... They'll flag together and say you are "intentionally creating a post for flaming other members." - gesture to TOS and code of conduct - yadda yadda. It is NOT a Felony, in the State of New York, to annoy a "Peace Officer" and contrary to popular belief, you can annoy them all you want.... This is just a proposed State Statute, that will NOT pass the 1st Amendment Smell Test... and will likely never become LAW.... and even if it does, that doesn't mean it will pass Constitutional Muster in the Courts. Politicos write stupid proposed statutes all the time, and most just die in committee.... .....
Look at how often the search/arrest is done by breach-bang-clear as if they were special operations troops. The police state is here.
It's SOP... They don't even bother with any other way to apprehend somebody. No-knock raids are the way it's done. Once in a while they even get the right house.
