Is this any good for smoking meat?
I'm currently helping an old widow woman remove probably the largest lemon tree I've ever seen.
Just wondering about cooking with it?

I found this comment online, but can't pin it down to a source.

    • Citrus trees (like orange and lemon) - This type of wood gives similar results, as in light, sweet, fruity and citrus flavor. It works great for smoking any type of meat , with poultry and pork being particularly recommended. Great for: Pretty much any type of meat, I recommend it for Poultry and Pork

Might want to experiment a little first before you commit to a larger stash, some woods don't make the best tasting smoke as others!
That said, if it works for your palette', more power to you, enjoy and share the results with us, always love food porn!

Just my personal opinion on Citrus woods.......... I would rather smoke a brisket with piss elm than a citrus tree :) A lot of folks like it, I just am not among them LOL.

Elm? Now that's one twisted center piece of wood, Have a neighbor willing to give it a go.
The lemons are bitter as anything I've tasted except for green persimmons
We believe its a wild lemon tree, Only good for throwing at you're buddy's head

A lot of woods that will just ruin perfectly god food... Yep Persimmon being way up there, Chinaberry probably being the absolute worst I have tasted, Sassafras might make a great tea but horrible wood to cook with, Elms and Elders and basswood come to mind.

Best woods IMO Any Member of the White Oak Family, Pecan, Shag Bark Hickory, Apple and Pear Trees, most stone fruit strees like peaches, apricot and nectarine. I like Mesquite for a few things like slow smokes short ribs and brisket.

I use what I have and 70% of my woods are Shag Bark Hickory with the rest a mix of White Oaks, Native Pecan with the edges thick in persimmon and sassafras. I have a decent size 50 tree orchard with peaches, plums, apples, Bartlet Pears, apricots and a couple of sour cherry trees. I keep the larger wood from the pruning. Smoked a couple of whole pork sides a few Months back with a mix of Peach and Lodi Apple wood and it turned out to be the best bacon I have made yet...... Hickory smoked bacon is still my favorite though :)
