A lot of people dismiss anything and everything Kel-Tec, but you don't seem to find actual owners of an SU-16 complaining about them. The SU-16 was not designed as and is not a combat rifle. It is best considered a utility rifle/truck gun. Polymer construction makes this a 3 magazine gun before heat becomes an issue, but it also makes it very light weight at 4.7 lbs unloaded. It also doesn't have a overt military look, folds in half (the "C" version can operate folded!), and is rugged and reliable. IMO the SU-16 C and SU-16 CA models are the two to consider. Accuracy per the review is 2-3 MOA. This may be a very good candidate as a get home gun. At current pricing, an AR still makes much more sense to me, but if prices skyrocket after the elections this fall, the SU-16 series might become a decent alternative within its capabilities. Here is a review by nutnfancy based on ten years of experience:
The SU-16 is a solid, viable option for those on a budget or who require an alternative to the AR platform.
I had one for a while and really liked it. Unfortunately they get a bad rap from folks who tacticool it up and it just isn't made for that. It's an excellent, packable, little carbine that's a good get home rifle or truck gun. It was fun as heck to shoot too.
