Didn't want to wait until next month to take the test so I decided to go this morning. I've been studying for over 2 weeks almost every night. Was afraid if I waited I might loose some of the info that's been stuck in my head. A larger group showed up than I had expected (25 or so). No idea how many passed. I was the second one called for results. Left after that. Seemed like the majority were taking the tech test. 3 of us went for the extra. Had to laugh when I wasn't sure where in the library I was supposed to go for the test until I saw a bunch of middle age guys standing around near a door. Thought, yup that's where I need to go. Whole process took a little over an hour. Have to admit it was a little stressful. Think I missed around 11 questions. Good enough. Been watching Dave Casler's video tutorials. Ham Radio Answers He does a great job of explaining the questions in a way that allowed me to understand the concepts. I understood almost all of the questions in the test pool. So the correct answers weren't hard to pick. Tried my best to memorise the remaining questions, but out of 700 possible, it wasn't easy. After I started passing the practice exams regularly I figured I would do OK. I downloaded both the arrl's ham test prep app and the extra test question pool with only the correct answers. Both of them together worked good. Some of the subjects I had no interest in understanding. Pretty sure I won't be building complex microwave circuitry. Other topics like eme, satellite, antenna building ECT interested me. So all in all I feel I did pretty good on the learning aspect. Decided to definatly buy the manual. Just haven't found it locally yet. If I can't, I'll be ordering it. Thanks to everyone who helped on my last post. Now I need to setup my gear. After I fix the burnt resister in my mfj tuner.
Congratulations and well done. I got my Extra the last week of the current pool (at the time...about 3 years ago) and pushed for a similar reason. I'd spent a couple of months studying and was afraid that the new questions would kick my butt.
Thanks everyone. One thing for sure. It's got me interested in radios again. I've been slacking for too long.
