I’ve got this Old Gun

1906 Remington pre-model 8 sporting a 1950s refinish and a 3 digit serial number

 

Danged good looking rifle, yall have taken good care of it!

 

That Rifle is GEORGOUS and is one of my Unicorns! I have a later ( mid 1920's) Mod 8 re bore, they took the .30 Remington and reamed out the chamber to .308 Winchester, this was done by the Famed Ed Shillin and was a standard practice for these old rifles and those like it, (like the Mod-1907 Winchester's in .351), as by the late 60's .30 Rem was unobtainium! Would LOVE to find a Pre Mod-8 or one of the Ever more rare FN manufactured versions!

 

I have shared this one before, but it bears showing again, if nothing else but the drool cool factor!

M-1855 MK-IV Colt Side Hammer Frontier Rifle, Caliber .50!
This was a road trip score my Grand Dad had sitting around, it was mostly a pile of parts when he got it, paid $5.00 for it and thought he might have over paid! I grew up playing cowboys and Indians with this bad boy in hand, killed thousands of Red Skins in my skilled hands, could shoot the wings off a fly at half a mile, at least that was what my childs imagination thought! It's taken me more then 40 years to restore it to usable shape, it's exceedingly rare, and is the rifle that started my love of all things Colt and these rifles in particular! This one even has the ultra rare factory side oiler sill attached, most were removed and tossed in the brush to be forgotten forever! It also has it's bayonet lug intact, something that proves it was a factory produced Frontier rifle, and not a later "Conversion" I also scored an ultra rare original aftermarket rear sight for it, one of the rarest parts for these rifles to find, paid way too much for it, but DAMN,, I had to have it!

 

You can fondle and shoot it some time if your ever up this way, I promise, her bark is way worse then her bite, though we gotta wrap your wrist to avoided cylinder gap burn! It's actually not that bad bit of singed hair, maybe a farmers tan at most! Lol

This one is in .35 Remington. It's a thumper.
I've been looking for model 8s and 81s but so many have been butchered by having their receivers drilled and tapped for scopes. and they want NRA Excellent 98-95 condition prices. when they are actually in fair condition at best.

 

One of my more interesting guns is the Whitney Wolverine .22 semiauto pistol, from the 1950s. I call it my "Buck Rodgers Space Pistol". A very interesting design, Alcoa aluminum frame, bolt rides in a sliding sleave inside the fixed frame tube. Reasonably accurate though not a tack driver. A fun plinker though. Only made a few short years, as this unknown young wannabe came up with a simpler pistol that, for some reason, became popular. (Bill Ruger).

 

Yep, it's futuristic style always pleases, and it's grip is the most comfortable and natural pointing I have ever handled. The newrr Olympic Arms synthetic copy is chunky in comparison.

 

I've got a couple of 'old' guns.
My gem is a Marlin 1894, which has been in my family since it was purchased new, sometime around 1897. I can only say 1897 as that's what the s/n says is the date of manufacture.
When I got this rifle after my father passed, it was a hot mess. There were screws missing or, in the case of the lever screw replaced with a bent nail. The firearm was also spray painted black at some point.
I refinished it, replacing broken/missing/worn out parts and re-blued it. I had the barrel relined, keeping it in the original .25-20WCF caliber.
Need to work on some feeding issues, but it still shoots better than I can aim!
