Woke up this morning to about 6" of snow! Remember, this is Dixie and that makes it a BIG deal! I spent the last few days getting ready for the worse while hoping for the best. I went to get some milk, bread and other stuff, fired up the emergency propane heaters, and got some gas for the generator. Good news is that it only snow and no ice. I slept late, called out at work, had a late breakfast and two cups of coffee. Later, I went out to take some pictures and built a snowman with my sister and nieces. All in all, a good snow day and we might have another tomorrow.
No frigid white stuff here in North Florida, but nightly temps have been in the low 30s, and even a couple nights in the high 20s. Last night (Thursday) it warmed to low 40s, but it'll rain this evening (Friday) with lows actually higher than daytime. Then late Saturday night we're expecting very low 30s again. Minor stuff for the Yankees up north, but mighty chilly for us.
My daddy would always wake us up, even in the middle of the night, if it snowed. We had a big porcelain wash-basin that we would rush out and fill with fresh snow, a bit of vanilla extrack, come condensed milk, and sugar...Nearly seven decades later and I can still remember those treats.
Here at Coastal SC we have been having sleet mixed with rain and some snow flurries. Sleet on the roof nothing on the roads. Where the heck is global warming
Just started here about an hour ago , I live at the bottom of a hill ,, luckily ,, I put new tires on my truck a week ago . We've only got maybe a half inch so far ,, but I had to go to the top of the hill to give daughter some cash,, and there was a few spots on that hill that I wasn't sure I was gonna make it up . If I have to go out again, I'll be locking in the 4x4 . I remember back around '90 ,, I was long haul truck driving,, somewhere around that time,, Florida got a little bit of snow ,, I was coming southbound from somewhere up north. 1 truck driver was talking on the CB ,, said he was headed home to Florida as fast as he could,,, he said as soon as got there , he was gonna trade in his 18 wheeler for a tow truck ,, he said he'd probably get rich in a day dragging folks out of the ditches.
Seems old Uncle Algore is letting us down. Guess he and his cronies didn't buy enough "carbon offsets"!
The future of this planet is COLD, don't believe the crazies on TV. And it looks like we dodged this on up north, but there are many just below us who are getting hit pretty hard.
Some of the snow melted Friday afternoon and will refreeze Friday night. North Alabama is gonna be a skating rink come Saturday morning, and for a few days afterward. PS The weathermen are getting better at forecasting snow. I remember when I was in school, and the weathermen would hint that it might snow. The next morning, I would spring out of bed, press my face to the window, and be heartbroken to see that there was no snow. There is no heartbreak like a kid denied a snow day!
Has to be enough snow so that you don't accidently get the dreaded purple snow (aka bird poop), also avoid the yellow snow!
