How many of you have found foods that didn't last, and what was your solution to making it last ?

IMO there is no way to make current food products last. I really believe that it is made to go bad, taste stale etc so we will keep buying. I think the chemicals they are now using as preservatives are of a different formula from those they used to put in canned foods. Canned food is gross. I am really beginning to dislike opening a can. I swear when you open the can you are hit with a smell that is sometimes toxic. I have opened a bag of chips before and had to throw it away because of the smell coming from the bag.

I know, I think about it all the time. Eventually I will have to because I am getting concerned about so many new freeze dried companies springing up that they may be shirking on quality.

You didn't mention but what was the expiry date? Foods won't last indefinitely no matter what you do. Oils go rancid, spices lose flavour, etc.

My puppies love stale peanut butter. We live in the age of designed obsolescence because everybody now has one of everything so the only way to keep the ball spinning is to make stuff that goes bad, stuff that breaks and has to be replaced.

how old was that peanut butter? It had to have been past the expiration data, we have some that we ate a year past the expiration date so that must have been some old pb.

peanut butter staleness is probably a factor of the oily component going rancid, more so than microbial contamination. Even though in most areas peanut butter will last a reasonable time....for long term storage, a cool dry environment will reduce the risk of the peanut butter going rancid.

Do you know if peanut oil goes bad or suspect the additives is what actually killed the peanut butter?

I may have lost that peanut butter but the dehydrated peanut butter I suspect is still good.
