Bah Snakes are good, just don't want the poisonous ones around the house. Copper heads though are not snakes..... they are Satan Spawn and should all be killed IMO!
Looks to me like a Timber Rattler! The eye color is common on the younger ones! Did ya get a look at the tail? Any rattle nodules?
Yup: Chicken snake, AKA Grey rat snake (Pantherophis spiloides). Harmless to humans. Eats eggs, as well as small animals of every kind. Will eat chicks, so keep it out of the run. Eats rats, so I'd let it hang around. Young ones eat lizards & frogs, so I guess they'd scarf down a smaller snake, too, if it wasn't wearing a spiked collar.
Oh, I let him slide on off, He's a big boy alright. He was under my cousin's camper so I decided that it would be a nice surprise for him and his wife!
All y'all say let it live until you reach in the laying box and pull out snake! Chickensnakes have cardiac venom! Not as much as a coachwhip snake though. (Aka yard cobra)
Y'all may call it a brown or blue racer. They grow to 6'-8'. If it sees loud noise or movement the SOB raises it's head about 2' off the ground, flattens it like a cobra, hisses really loud, and comes after you at just about as fast as a 10 year old Zimmy can run. This pursuit can last for 200m-300m. In tall grass the coachwhip will work across the top of the grass like a sidewinder and still keep the head more than a foot above the body. I swore that thing belched sulfur and had wings like a dragon. When I was older, coachwhips would attack tractors by chasing behind them and striking the tires. I personally made the world better by revving the throttle and sending a dozen into the baler.
Oh, I've had run ins with coach whips and blue runners chasing me and also been chased by cottonmouths' believe or not. A cottonmouth will chase a person !
