Cost me $900 cash on a Sunday (because f the government) to get mine going. The well service lifted out a 10 turbine pump on 110ft of 6 inch pipe, about 3 tons of steel and motor.
Now I got a 16 inch bore well I can pump 100gpm from till the cows come home.

Got a real bargain, know a lot of neighbors that spent $10,000 for a 600 ft well that pumped 2 to 3 gal a min and then had to spend another few thousand to store it and make it drinkable.

Good article, well worth reading if you are thinking of buying a retreat. If you can't get or afford the water, it isn't a retreat, its a cache. The only comment I would make that as the area was built up, I find it necessary to have my water tested every few years and in addition as you pull water out of the well, it has to recharge by pulling water into the vein, you might pull some new containment into it and in New England, we are finding a lot of bad water that the tests used 10 years ago wouldn't detect.
