Now.... Imagine doing this without power tools.. The statue of David by Michelangelo is 14 feet in height, was completed from commissioning in 1501 to completion in1504. Carved from a single block of marble that had been previously worked on so Michelangelo had to work with what he was given.
I cried the first time I stood in front of the Pieta . I love sculpting and to think that Michaelangelo created such masterpieces by hand out of marble is truly unfathomable.
I've created pieces using chicken wire, welding rod, a variety of woods, plaster, clay but never mud and never marble. I guess I avoid the "M" of material
