We here in "Not-Always-Sunny" Florida are getting ready for another hurricane to ravage us. My preps are as good as I can manage. The predicted tracks have Hurricane Helene making a beeline for us here in Tallahassee, expected to come ashore as a Cat Three. I'm hoping it veers eastward like the last one.

Hope it misses you...latest shows it still moving WNW...and the front that's supposed to push it eastward appears to be weakening (bad for us if it keeps going that direction) so Big Bend to Pensacola is my prognostication.
Either way you'll be on the bad side of the storm :(
Be safe and batten down the hatches!

    Disclaimer: I am not a meteorologist...so that's a big FWIW!

Our weather guy says it will be a quick mover, so that is a plus.

Yep, it's the squatters that really tear us up. I expect power outages for up to a few days. Our governor already has power workers from other states in place to help.

Make sure your gen set is ready, maintained, and you've got plenty of fuel for it and your vehicle. Might be awhile before you can get gas, especially if power's out for a week or two.

Sucks for those folks on the Gulf Coast, but y'all should have known that when you moved there. Those beaches aren't always sunny. Up here in NW Alabama, we could use some more rain (it was a long, hot and dry summer), Francine gave us 8 " and maybe Helene will give us some more.

Every place has it's dangers. No place is safe. My family and I have been dealing with tropical storms and hurricanes since our two original ancestors came here in the 1740s. Ain't no different than dealing with adverse conditions anywhere in this nation.

I'm kinda in a Cinderella Zone up here. It's not too hot and not too cold! Not too dry and not too wet. Good soil and growing season. No earthquakes and nothing is trying to eat me. We do have the occasional tornado, and while they pack a punch, they are small and rare around my homeplace.

Reports are that FEMA is already in place to help. Also many power company workers from other states are in place or on the way to help get power back up after the storm passes.

The latest from our local newspaper online site:

"The National Hurricane Center’s 5 p.m. advisory for Hurricane Helene indicated another small shift to the east, with the cone of uncertainty stretching from eastern Leon County into Taylor County.

The hurricane’s center line, which ran between Tallahassee and Quincy in earlier forecasts, is now east of there, between Tallahassee and Perry."

So it's shifted just slightly east of me. It'll make landfall between 11PM and 12AM.

Anyone still in NW Florida, and especially near the beach, should take a moment to pray and then kiss your ass good-bye, because Cat 4 Helene is just about there! GOD BLESS! I'm sooo glad to be where I am!
