My Great-grandmother brewed a garlic tea or tonic to treat her high blood pressure. My Father said that when she was cooking up a batch you needed to be about a mile from the house for most of the day. It must have worked she lived into her 90s and buried a couple of doctors.

The clip does not say two things that are very important:

Plant in the Fall Before the Ground Freezes
Garlic actually needs a cold period to develop properly. In cold climates, the best time to plant is 4 to 6 weeks before the ground freezes, usually late September to October. This gives the cloves time to establish roots before winter, but not enough time to sprout above ground and risk frost damage.

    Mulch Heavily for Winter Protection
After planting, cover your garlic bed with 4 to 6 inches of mulch. Straw, shredded leaves, or even pine needles work well. This insulates the soil, keeps the cloves from heaving during freeze-thaw cycles, and helps them overwinter successfully. You can pull back some mulch in spring once the danger of deep freezes has passed.
