Agreed with all so far in this thread....OPSEC should be common sense.
However...I want to also point your attention to the RAT society/Social Engineering/Culture that YOU are letting evolve around you.

Living in fear and running to the AUTHORITIES to protect you from everything is standard operating procedure.

Consider how tempting it would be for someone on welfare to rat a "suspicious gun owner" out if they thought there was any change of a "crimestoppers" or "tip hotline" reward MORE than their welfare cheque?

Ya...think aboot that while you import a generation of welfare voters via open borders justified by "POLITICAL CORRECTNESS".'

I would change that to CIs ARE ALWAYS your friends and neighbors. Had a criminal justice class in college taught by an old, rather bitter ex-cop who liked to say if it wasn't for pissed off girlfriends, a lot more crime would go unsolved. And growing up in the 'burbs taught me well that the neighbor who smiles and waves every day is the same one that calls the cops every time you park your car an inch past his property line, don't mow your grass fast enough to suit him, or have a dog that barks.

 

Something to remember - "The News Media is the Nation's fifth columnist" now. The boot is on the neck of free speech and Conservatives.

 

The guy was a blowhard. He obviously was not a true prepper because he forgot #1 rule- keep your cards close.

 

And as for the CI, how many people could he have sold devices to (assuming that part is true). The CIs name would be all over the interwebs if it had happened to me.

If not true, civil suit time. Sue the cops to get the LIARS name and then OWN him or her.

 

Good way to check in at the "Grey bar motel" is to brag about what you may or may not have. Either way is an open invitation for harassment from the alphabet boys/girls.

 

The larger problem, is being criminalized just because you are prepared for some type of event, in Florida it's hurricanes, the local governments tell you to be prepared, have plenty of food and water. In the last decade the gulf state have been through devastating hurricane that crippled the food and water supply for months, people in some cases became somewhat of savages trying to get water and food. Being prepared is not a bad thing and the government should support that, but the police state were is forcing a dependent population, oh well take care of you we have a plan and we are prepared. Hello that's all we want too, is to be prepared and not be dependent. In five years I would like to look back and say man I thought the shit was gonna hit the fan but I afraid that want be my observation

Oh, don't be so sure. Having been over most of the world, and seen more destruction than I'd like, it is those who are prepared that have the least problems. OTOH those you know might consider a minor hurricane a real disaster because they did not have food or water and needed meds. While all you needed to do was stay home or in place and wait for the weather to clear.

Been there, always stayed safe so far.

 

I am referring to the general populous on the disaster definition. I personally agree with you. The thing is, and my point to make, is that the sheeple simply want the gov to have everything ready and prepared for them instead of having a plan of there own. I personally think planning and preparing is the most fun, until you have to implement lol

 

That's the fun part, when you you have to implement. Then you set back and watch all the idjuts!

The first rule of prepping is; "Never tell anybody your preps".
Also, if you join a group of preppers, hold back an emergency stash of food, clothes, 1st aid kit,
firearm/ammo, survival gear just in case. And then don't tell anybody.
