Dog Attack

So my Girlfriend had 3 little 5 pound some kind of fancy dogs and now she has 2. Pampions or something like that mean little shits with bad tempers. So they have pretty much been attacking my Aussi shep/Pit mixes non stop for a Month now. To my dogs credit they have shown a lot of restraint until yesterday..... Poo finally had enough and snatched one up, gave it a few shakes and dropped it dead before it hit the floor. So she/the GF started hitting Poo which triggered PoP to attack the GF. To PoPs Credit she attacked exactly how my dogs have been trained to attack a human target..... Just forgot the part about never attacking a Human unless commanded to. So PoP went for the area between ankle and calf......... Sunk her teeth in deep and pulled back while twisting around and back. Two things in that area of note The Tendon and a Artery. I am not sure how but PoPs single bite missed both fortunately. And even more fortunate Poo drove PoP off long enough for the GF and the surviving two little dogs to escape out of the cabin. I had just pulled up with a bucket load of firewood on the little BX tractor and had missed all of this and was not there to stop it before it even got started. So there she is on the porch screaming Poo Killed Toby and a pool of blood forming around her foot. And hard to miss that part of her leg looking like five pounds of ground round. Best option I had close at hand was a roll of paper towels and a ace bandage to get her leg wrapped and pressure on the spurting wounds to contain the bleeding and got her in the car and flew to the ER. Given the amount of blood and volume of flow along with the deep red color I was very concerned that PoP had ripped the artery. I called ahead on the way to the ER and they fast tracked the GF right into the triage room. Took my makeshift compression bandage off and got the X Rays and the artery and tendons were intact and not damaged. She had still lost a lot of blood though.... They hit her with the Morphine and looked like they put a gallon of Lidocaine in her leg before they started deep cleaning and flushing the very deep cuts from the fangs that were 2 on each side of her leg going around to the back where it all came together in one ground up mess. So 5 hours and 300ish stitches later the doctor had her leg all cleaned out and sewn back together........ leaving several gaps for drainage. They ran a couple of bags of high power antibiotics into her and added a quart of blood to her bandaged it all up stuck one of those boots on her and discharged her with a prescription for 5 days worth of pain killers, a combo of antibiotics and orders to follow up with her primary care doctor on or before Monday.

So we get back home and I finally made it back to the bedroom and yep Poo killed Toby, not a single puncture, cut or drop of blood on him..... Poo just crushed him. PoP got put on a chain out in the Dog Yard. As soon as PoP saw the GF the ears folded back the teeth came out and every hair on her back stood up. In PoPs little pea brain she has decided that the GF is a threat to the pack. I normally have zero tolerance for a dog that attacks a human unprovoked or without being commanded to. I am having a hard time with making the judgment to put PoP Down. The GF Dogs attacked Poo, then in PoPs eyes the GF Attacked Poo and in turn PoP attacked the GF for attacking the Dog Alpha of my pack. So it was provoked in the Dog psych way. And Poo did get PoP off the GF at least minimizing the damage. Poo will only bite a human if directly threatened and just didn't consider the GF to be a threat to her and has no malfunction with the GF, Dukey Poo and PoPs sibling just stayed out of it. So the question left for me is will the GF ever be safe around PoP again or will PoP always consider her a threat and danger to her pack going forward. I have 9 more days to come to a conclusion on that and whether PoP lives or dies. Hospital did not report it to the State because they PoP is "Our" Dog and I keep all of my Dogs Shots up to date but legally still have to keep PoP alive for 10 days after a human bite. And PoP has never attacked a human before and is the most gentle and people friendly dog I know until I or the other Dogs are threatened. The GF did a total stupid and waded into Dog Politics with zero control or influence over my dogs. Her Dog was already dead so there was nothing to be gained by hitting Poo other than becoming a target for PoP and Duke. My guys are not Huge Dogs Poo 90 Pounds and PoP and Duke 70 and 80 pounds and have been well trained to defend me and the property and have grown up destroying packs of Coyotes. They will not take commands from anyone but me and will only take commands in my Native Language. They are not aggressive but do project a high level of intimidation to strangers. Our Pack Pecking order is I am the supreme alpha, Poo is the Dog Alpha, PoP is 3rd in line, Duke is just kind of laid back and easy going and takes the lowest spot and BB the 8 Pound Rat Terrier Dominates us all........ even if we don't know it.

Maybe I did wrong by training them to attack Humans at that very vulnerable spot between ankle and calf and from behind.. Its above Combat Boots and behind shin armor. It accomplishes two things rips the tendon and takes the enemy off their feet will tear the artery open and yes a person will bleed out with that artery severed and puts the enemy face down ass up in the dirt and open to the follow up throat and face attacks. The problem here is NONE of them are supposed to attack another Human like that without my command to do so. Without command they nip and nose bump..... Except for this time. And again Poo did by the GF account grab PoP by the throat and force her down on her side into submission......... I do believe that is what Poo was trying to do with the little mean ass dog but grabbing a little dog like that and grabbing another pit, pit mix or bigger dog like that is crushing death for the little dog and a sore neck for the bigger dogs. I am not going to fault Poo at all here, I have told the GF for weeks that this was coming and her pack of munchkins was going to attack Poo one to many times and she would have enough of it. Either break them of it or keep them closed in the bedroom or just hers out in the Dog Yard. What I didn't see coming was her getting involved in the Dog Politics when Poo did have enough of it and responded and then getting her left leg turned into burger by PoP. Even worse I had Poo and PoP outside and she let them inside yesterday. If I had been inside and saw what was brewing I could have stopped it all with one word before it even got started. She could scream STOP to my guys all day long and would just be ignored. At Least Poo followed her training to the letter. If Poo had joined in with PoP in attacking the GF there would be no GF today. I am guessing after she has healed up and is back on her feet there won't be a GF anyway after this. As it is 2 weeks before she can walk farther than the toilet and 6-8 weeks before she will be walking normally again and out of the Boot. Personally I would take that time to reflect on everything I did wrong to get chewed up like that and learn not to do some stupid shit like that and come up with a plan to control my dogs. Hell I won't even wade into my Dogs Political Disputes if they don't stop on command I put a bullet through the floor or in the ground to stop it and get their attention and second one to send them running in different directions. They are not gun shy but in that circumstance the BIG DOG is barking and is pissed and I have their full attention when that .45 booms right beside them. Hey everyone rare once in a while PoP decided to challenge Poo for Dominance and they go full red eyed stupid and death locked on to each other and I figure best to break it up rather than them kill each other. LOL when they were a lot younger and smaller I stuck my hands into their politics and learned first hand just how hard Poo could clamp down on a forearm at just short of 1 year old...... She let go and ran away when she realized what and who she had just clamped down on, but Yeah I will waste a couple of bullets now instead getting my own deep punctures... LOL I thought she was going to crush the bones in my arm and her jaws and crush power is a whole lot more now than it was 7 years ago. Most of their disputes are just spats and Poo gets PoP by the neck and forces her down on her side until PoP goes limp and submits and that is that and PoP is cooled down for another year or two. On Rare occasions PoP Manages to get Poo by the neck and Poo has PoP by the neck and they would lay there clamped onto each other until one or both were dead.... 9 out of 10 times though PoP doesn't stand a chance against Poo and just gets totally dominated. Worst case is PoP gets some minor punctures or they both get some minor punctures but they both have big thick Pit Necks.

I will say the Aussi Shep and Pit mix are the best Dogs I have ever had. They have the High Aussie Intelligence, the muscle of a pit about 70% of the crushing power of a full pit, somehow all 3 ended up with huge over sized cartoon dog upper and lower fangs...... When they bare them its like how in the hell do those daggers even fit in their mouths??? They are not naturally aggressive and have to really be provoked into getting mad and snapping. The Drawback is once they do get mad and the eyes go bloodshot they go full Pit One Track Mind and it takes something like the big booms to get their attention and break the rage trance. And they are low profile, low center of gravity which gives them a huge advantage over other tough breeds of dogs and why they can just cut through packs of 15-20 coyotes and not get a scratch on them. They fight as a team and have strategies but always Poo in Center, PoP on the Right and Duke on the left and make a wedge that protects each other in a big Them VS A Coyote Pack brawl. Always fun to watch the coyotes think they have found a easy doggy dinner and in the end 6-7 coyotes dead and the rest retreating all bloody and shredded. The only thing that has ever almost killed Poo was that dumped giant ass Rot that had tore PoP up and when Poo and Duke got there managed to get Poo's entire head in it mouth and was shaking 90 pound Poo like a little Rag Doll...... Dukey came to the rescue though and got the Rots Full Attention when he ripped one of its ears off. It let Poo go and went for Duke.... Bad mistake on the Rots Part. Once free Poo went full psycho on the rot and started ripping chunks out of its neck........ and still didn't manage to kill it! I took it out the next morning with a long range shot when it was trying to take a calf down. PoP came real close to dying from her injuries from the Rot, Poo has a pair of forever scars from the rots fangs across the top of her head and one of her ears is split in two half way down the ear. And Duke Ripped the ear off and ran dodged the big SOB Until a Combination of Poo and Duke convinced him to run away. Then instead of chasing him down they both went and sat on either side of PoP guarding her. Long ass walk from the lake dam corner to the cabin carrying a limp 70 pound PoP..... Even Longer night keeping her alive until the Vet office opened the next morning. And the one time we went for a walk around and I didn't have a gun on my hip :( and beating the big rots head with a rock only made it clamp down harder on Poo's head. I weighed it before Animal Control came and picked its corpse up to examine it and test it for rabies.... LOL it managed to bite me sometime during the fight. It came back rabies free....... So it was just a mean ass psycho Satan Dog. And Yay Wow I had to get all 4 doses of the Post Bite Rabbies treatment with is a lot better than the old deep injection into the abdomen series of shots the first time I got bit by a rabid coon in my youth. LOL was walking down the creek checking my traps and out of nowhere a coon hops off the steep bank and starts chewing on the back of my head. GOOD TIMES!!! His head went to the lab and he was indeed rabid.

Anyway I just am having a real hard time deciding whether to put PoP down over this or not. One of the demands from the GF is PoP has to be put down and Poo has to go live somewhere else or she will leave. I am leaning real heavily toward say "I love you honey and am sure gonna miss you." Can't get around she can't control her little dogs. Let Poo and PoP inside without me present. Did not keep her Dogs safely contained in the bedroom with a door between her mean ass little dogs and Poo and PoP. Then got involved in Dog Politics in a situation that she had zero control over and none of the Dogs involved would obey her. Her Dog was already dead on the floor when she started hitting Poo...... At least her other two dogs had the good sense to retreat and run away and hide after Poo had enough. And can I really fault PoP for protecting her pack Dog Alpha... I have told the GF time and again DO NOT HIT one because you will be hitting all 3 and if I am NOT present that is a fight you will not win. Bottom line is I am not going to get rid of Poo, she has been with me every step of every day since she was born 8 years ago and so has PoP and Duke. PoP DID break the Golden Rule of attacking a Human but under the circumstances I am having a real hard time giving her a death sentence for it. Yes the GF injuries are serious and going to leave some very respectable scars. From my perspective I would look at those scars and be reminded of something that I did that was REALLY STUPID. Right now every time the GF moves or makes a sound PoP runs to the Bedroom Door hair standing up, ears folded back and teeth bared ready to attack if the door opens. I have no idea how to correct that or even if it can be corrected. So for now PoP goes out on the chain in the Dog Yard. Even if PoP gets it out of her head that the GF is not a danger or threat, I could never trust PoP to be alone with the GF again. So either way if PoP Dies or the GF leaves there really is no happy ending to this story for me. LOL PoP will live another 6-8 years and the odds of the GF still being around in 6-8 years are pretty slim in todays relationship world. PoP will be 100% loyal to me until the day she dies and again in todays disposable relationship world the odds of the GF being the the same are also slim to none.

I am sorry her dog died but her dogs invoked that not Poo. I am sorry her leg got shredded one of my bullet holes is in about the same spot and I know first hand how painful a serious injury in that area is and her wounds are a lot worse than that 7.62x39 ever were in my leg. Just a really bad place to get a serious wound :( Of course that is why I trained to dogs to attack there first...... A enemy that can't stand or walk can't fight and is open to other attacks when they are laying in the dirt and pumping blood out of the lower leg. But again she provoked and invoked that pack instinct as soon as she hit Poo.

So after writing this out, I am pretty sure that PoP is not going to be put down, There is Zero chance of Poo going anywhere and if she would stop and think about it....... Poo saved her life by stopping PoP from going for round two of the attack and giving her the opportunity to get out of the Cabin before it got any worse. And just NONE of this would have happened if she had NOT let Poo and PoP inside with the bedroom door wide open and her aggressive mean little shitz of dogs able to attack Poo. But no NOPE No One ever listens to Krappy and thinks they know better than Krappy than Krappy knows about things that Krappy only knows :( Like Poo is very tolerant and laid back with other dogs but will eventually have enough and assert her dominance. But Nope "My little dogs can't hurt your dogs on their best day!" Nope they can't but my dogs don't see big or little dogs they just see dogs challenging them at every turn. Sure I see little dogs VS Big Dogs and the outcome of that not being pretty when they enter the Dog Politics Debate. So I guess in 8 weeks when she is all healed up I will move her to wherever she wants to go :( And just keep PoP away from her and contained in the Dog Yard and my Camper until she is gone. Like it or not the Laws of cause and effect and Natural Consequences positive or negative are strong here. Krappy can see telling her not to grab a spinning PTO shaft because it will kill you and her grabbing the spinning PTO shaft just see if Krappy is just making it up and the PTO shaft ripping a arm off and then demanding Krappy gets rid of the tractor. Lots of things here that will Hurt you BAD or Kill you FAST if you won't listen to Krappy and think you know better :( Krappy's Dogs are just one of lots of things. Maybe Krappy knows these things because Krappy lives these things and with these things and has for a very long time. If Krappy goes to someone else's place and they say this is dangerous or do this or don't do that Krappy pays attention because he knows that person knows their place and things a lot better than Krappy does.

There are so many ways to kill or seriously injure yourself on even a small farm...... from falling down in a hog pen and being the hogs bowel movement the next day...... to sticking a hand in a baler to clear a clump with the PTO spinning and baling yourself.... to cutting down a widow maker tree and it squishing you to goo to a hundred or more other things that are not very forgiving. If you can't close a door or not let dogs in with other dogs not contained and getting a lower leg shredded because of it........ Then Krappy has wonder what the next trick will be and how bad will the injury be? LOL I know that HOGS are dangerous and will eat you if you fall or let them get you down. And they always go for the lower legs and try to rip and bite that sweet spot to take you off of your feet. Always a good idea to wear good thick leather boots up to the calf when in with hogs. Even a better idea is to not get in a pen with 250-300 pound Hogs since you have zero chance in winning a fight with One let alone several. That is why every year 5-6 news stories pop up about some hobby farm owner with Hogs got ate by their own Hogs........and all they found were his/her teeth and glasses. LOL even those cute goats....... let a buck in rut stand up on its back legs and hit you in the chest...... If they can break a 6x6 in half with a single hit.... yep they can break ribs and pretty much any bone and a minimum leave you with some serious bruises. Or try being in the wrong position using a big chainsaw and it kick back and hit you in the shoulder or worse center of the forehead. Or running that nice new band mill and zinging fingers, a hand or a leg off because you did a stupid. There used to be a youtube video of a Bandmill Exspurt teaching people how to use sawmills...... He was dicking around with dogs on his mill and the head rolled forward, tripped him forward and cut both of his ass cheeks off before it stopped rolling.......Either he took his channel down or YT did it for him. Imagine going through the rest of yer life with no ass cheeks!

Something I failed to consider in my woman search was the steep learning curve living out here in the middle of nowhere and all of the dangers and risk that someone that was not raised out in the stick or on a working farm just would not know much if anything about. And then to make it worse the sheer number of people in general that are so busy knowing everything that they are not capable of learning anything and insist on finding everything out the hard and painful way. Compounded by a general lack of common sense even in people my own age and above :( So setting aside the Poo and PoP issue there is the high probability that she will end up seriously injuring or killing herself simply because she will not listen and has to debate every point of things that just ARE and have not a clue what she is talking about. And OMG you trying to educate a female about things they know nothing about is being a condescending sexist trying to mansplain to her. Doesn't matter to me if a person is male or female ignorance is ignorance and can be cured but the person has to be open to the cure and if someone is not a asset then they are a liability and one who insist on maintaining ignorance and not accepting personal responsibility IS a liability.

I think after this one Krappy is just going to give up on the woman and companionship thing and save a lot of money and have a lot less headaches! And NO Lady that is NOT a black and white Kitty Cat that made you smell really bad! Anyway hope posting this gives someone else some insights in to my current situation or reminds someone that might have become complacent just how fast things can go sideways. This one is past SNAFU and well into TARFU if not already into FUBAR but at least it is not a BOHICA or hell maybe it is LOL. And then she is pissed at me because I remained calm and collected through the whole thing and all of the blood didn't phase me at all. Geesh what was I supposed to do go into a panic and make the situation worse? Would me freaking out instead of getting the bleeding slowed to a trickle instead of a flowing creek somehow have helped? And OMG I took care of her wounds as best I could and got her two surviving dogs out of the Cabin before getting her in the car and to the ER but I didn't recover the dead ones body before leaving. Gasp I was more concerned about the living than the dead. Sorry but I have seen and taken care of a lot more blood and a lot worse wounds in the field than what she had going on... so nope it didn't phase me at all beyond prioritizing things in order of what needed to be done. I got the bleeding slowed enough that I could take the time to get her living dogs out of their hiding spot and outside and still get her driving a reasonable amount over the speed limit to the best ER with the most qualified Doctors and Nurses to deal with a potentials nicked or severed artery. The two closest Podunk Hospitals are good for getting bloodwork done and the ERs and their Nigerian Rent a Doctors might be OK for dealing with a case of constipation.... Maybe. And no matter what with her wounds they would have shipped her off to STL, Evansville or Paducah. So Heartland Regional in Marion was the best option with a Surgeon that could splice a severed artery back together if needed. But nope BAD KRAPPY BAD You drove right past the first hospital and went another 20 minutes down the interstate before getting me the care I needed! LOL the hospital I drove past...... The Nigerian Rent a Doctors would have probably smeared some chicken shit on it, put a few band aids over it and called it a day.

I went through this with an ex-girlfriend. I had the sweetest and most even tempered yellow lab that was my best friend. Had a girl move in and she started trying to be the boss of him. Well, his good nature allowed him to take it for a long time until she grabbed him by the scruff of the neck one morning to make him move from the couch and she about pulled back a nub as they say. One of his teeth went all the way through the side of her hand. When I got home from work she had been to the doctor and the hand was wrapped up, 'ol Duke met me at the door as usual, not showing any signs that anything was wrong. Then she started in on me about how the dog was aggressive and should be shot, how she was tempted to call animal control, how I was a bad person for keeping such a wild animal, and finally, how if I didn't get rid of him she was leaving. Duke lived another 12 years to the old age of 16 and I still get wet eyes thinking of him. I let her pack her shit and leave. Probably the best decision I ever made.

Dogs know things we have no idea about. Granted, It was an escalated situation, but PoP did what dogs do. I learned a long time ago that no animal will ever get up in the morning and decide "I'm gonna bite Tempstar today" or "'I'm gonna steal his money". They just don't think that way. The girlfriend made an enemy of the dog, not the other way around. Putting the dog down because of her bad decision shouldn't even be in the thought process.

Yep ,, I've made a few concessions with gal friends similar to before ,, and it was always a regret later on . Because in the end ,, the gal will most likely always take out for a supposedly better deal down the road ,,, no matter what you gave up , for them .

Nope ,, I wouldn't get rid of the dog ,, that's the dogs home ,, the ole lady hasn't earned her keep yet ,, and she may never earn it .

Just my opinion,, but the dog would die a long happy life on the property she's protected her whole life .

I know it's a rough decision,, but if you put the dog down,, and she leaves in a year or 2 ,, you'll never forgive yourself.
Ask her if she'll give up her dogs ,, seeings how they started the mess ??

Good luck brother ,, either way ,,, you'll make the decision that best works out for your position. Best of luck to ya .

I agree with the decision to keep the dog. As I read I was thinking, "If the dog has to go, I will take the dog. Of course I will need to be trained on how to handle the dog and be accepted by the dog." Now it seems that the dog is safe. As for the girlfriend, I don't need one, so I can't help you there.

Now hold on Krappy. This woman made a huge mistake thinking by her arrival she was immediately in charge, #1 in the pecking order. First and foremost, the woman couldn't or wouldn't control her little rat dogs. Second, she allowed this to happen by not taking cautionary measures to protect her smaller dogs. These dogs acting accordingly, did nothing wrong. No, it is not a good thing she got bite but what did she think would happen? I certainly would have known that if I got involved in the tussle that I certainly could have been injured because - well - in short dogs are dogs and do what dogs do, especially good dogs. No, the human was at fault here. She is the one with the larger intellect. She misjudged and misread the situation and certainly took no precautions. Finally, understand this was NOT some case of biting someone that was walking peacefully down the road minding their own business. This was inside their home and they were attacked, first by the rat dog, and second by some human they do not know. It's unfortunate, yes, and was totally preventable but it certainly wasn't the dog's fault. I rest my case, your Honor, and we ask the court to recognize this was a clear case of self-defense.

Having stated my case in defense of PoP, I would not be so certain it is over between you and her. Time changes everything and she might come to her senses, realize how she mishandled it. Maybe after she healed up some she will understand. However, if not...well maybe it simply wasn't meant to be. Sadly, this may be the case, maybe not, but finding out now is certainly much better than in a year from now. My guess, if she cares for you, if she is a fair person and can honestly admit her mistakes, she will realize soon that she was certainly in the wrong and make peace. Hang in there!

BTW my wife got bite by a dog as a child, ugly scar, but to this day she does not blame the dog. Why? Because she was being a stupid kid, and the dog was being a dog.

The fault does indeed begin and end with her. She is a bit more rational this afternoon about it. I am not real concerned with the possibility of litigation. She is on record in the ER incident notes as saying her dogs attacked my dog and her dog lost and she hit Poo and that is when PoP attacked her. She is very fortunate that Poo chose to protect her instead of join in on PoPs Attack.

Damn right she is fortunate! And, it sounds like she is indeed coming to her senses. You could say this is indeed a test of her character. I understand if she is not incline to lovey-dovey with the dogs but bottom-line dogs are dogs and these are respected and working members of the farm, farm dogs. She tried to beat these farm dogs like her small city, rat dogs, and the dog(s) thought she was attacking. In truth, she is damn lucky they all didn't dog pile her and in time, if she has a lick of sense, she will understand this. She should be giving Poo extra treats for understanding the situation, for her extra intelligence and, because we all know, Poo saved her ass - period. Case closed!

Your Honor, we move for full acquittal for my client...

While I am very sorry that Kamp Krap has to face this no win situation, the fact is it is a very good learning experience for the rest of us in a Jerry Young type story. I am not any where near his quality, but out lining a story post SHTF and several have written about this situation.

1 A place of refuge has been developed over a period of years and now has the needed resources to survive for a
extended time period in reasonable, before or after SHTF.

2 A single person or a group have spent years and a lot of hard work building their retreat or retirement home and are now ready to use it for a period of time.

3 Situation changes or planed expansion requires that new members be added to the existing retreat and those members have neither the sweat equity nor the living experiences of the existing members and a different out look on life. This may not be obvious in the beginning.

4 Some event triggers a confirmation in the different ethos of the "survivalist" group and the "main stream" group. In this case the dogs not used to living in a pack and no pack survival skills triggered an event where a normal domination even turned fatal. Two "other" dogs and master still have no idea of pack behavior and it went out of control when she attacked the pack and they responded in an overt manner that caused major damage. See it in the subway marine being charged with murder, or many of the BLM events. In SHTF it could be arguments over giving resources to outsiders, bringing in more members, debates over leadership, etc. While no situation exists for the two groups, individuals can learn from the event and change their life view and become part of the retreat.

5 No solution is available that will satisfy both groups because they have totally different views of life. Most common example of this is abortion and the need to "help" all of the poorer members of society. Even if they do not live in this country or refuse to work and just be fed. It will often turn violent as either one group tries to dominate or outside groups are brought in to "help", usually by taking resources with "main stream" group and destroying the "survivalists" as they both have resources the sheep need and are a minority. In lesser situations it often done thru lawfare and courts. They were a cult and sucked me in and brain washed me and I need $1,000.000 to pay form the pain and suffering I endured. Or some minor event leads to massive over response and all are killed as were the Branch Davidians.

6 Good luck, I know of no solution that doesn't either destroy the retreat and most members or one group being dominated by the other and basically giving in all the time and either going along or appearing to go along. If you do form a retreat you have to both be very grey and select your members as carefully as Christ and even he had problems.

Dammit there Mr Duane ,,, that's a pretty good write up .
But I'll say this ,,, you just solidified my future as I'm going to finish out this life alone ,, as far as moving anyone onto my retreat . Any special others better have their own little
    fortress .

    I do better alone anyway ,, at least I do ,, till I don't.

Disagree SB21, my wife has severe Altshiemers and they wanted to put her in a nursing home a year ago. She can't do much and can't communicate, but she is still in there and we both are in our own way enjoying life. I still love being with her and we will try to make it as long as we can. I would have a hard time living alone after close to 40 years of marriage and building a retreat for our old age together. Hard to really know how much you do have until you lose it.
