DIY self watering wicking grow tubs

    This video clip features self wicking grow tubs...the shape of tub is unimportant, but the principles for their construction are important. The tubs should be UV resistant.

    UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

    55 gal Plastic barrels cut in half work well for this.
    Smaller 30 gal barrels can be cut into 5" rings and used with scrap wood laid loosely across therm to support the soil.
    The ends of the smaller barrels can be perforated and put in inverted.
    Notch the lower edge of the rings & ends to allow free water flow. Just takes one notch. A 1" Vee is good.
    Cut slightly overlong wooden dipsticks to fit the fill tubes. Use them to check the water level in the buckets.
    Mark the dipsticks at each end. Use 1 per 2 buckets,
