Don't forget, hand sanitizer can cause your kidneys to fail, long term exposure to anything containing alcohol or any of it's derivatives can cause kidney failure and permeant damage!

Big problem is that the alcohol in most hand cleaners etc is either wood or denatured, both poisons, don't want you to buy 90 %, 180 proof, and drink it. So added to the drying etc effects of it, you also are applying a topical poison to you skin.

Septic tanks only work if the bacteria can break down the material put into them and allow the liquids to go into the leach fields. Past that stage, things like paper towels, tampex and every condom you flush down will show up the next time the tank solids are pumped. Lye etc will kill the bacteria and in a few weeks without bacteria, it will fill full of solids. All toilet paper is not the same, it has to say septic safe, there are cheap brands that are not, but work well with cities that have a sewage disposal system

We have been very careful with our system and have it pumped ever second year, it is still working well and nearly 50 years old. Many systems, newer and better designs, don't make 20 years with out care and pumping. Once the solids fill the holding and digestion tank and flow into the leach field, the system usually has to be rebuilt. Since in most cases the old soil must be removed and placed in a landfill and fresh sand be trucked in for the filter bed, it may cost more than the original install. Depending on the size of system and soil, etc, that is usually anywhere for $20 thousand for a simple situation, up to $300 thousand or more for a large system.

If you are required to have a well and septic system in your rural retreat, check it out very carefully. High water table, clay soil, solid rock close to the surface, and a host of other things can drive the cost to legally live in you place to very high levels. Since the state sets up the rules, it may well be something that the local inspector can not ignore. Likewise in many area the drilling of a well may be $10 thousand or more and with no guarantee that there be usable water or that it will be drinkable.
