DAK or SPAM, that is the question

Which is it going to be...
First let me tell you I hadn't tasted either of these products since my Boy Scouts days in the 60's.
    They haven't changed...
The cans, first thing I noticed is the SPAM Can was only 12 oz, the DAK Can is 16 oz.
The cans, opened, both are pull top lids, they are both pink like him, the DAK product appears to be more marbled.
SPAM weighs in at: 11.9 oz washed weight.
DAK weighs in at: 15.3 oz washed weight.
The DAK product had a bit more "jelly", you can see the left over dents on the left of the pic.
SPAM Frying, the consistency of SPAM is like pureed ham.
DAK Frying, the consistency of DAK is like shredded and chunky ham pieces.

The cost of DAK at Wmart is a bit more than SPAM, but they both go on sale at CVS for 2/$5.00.

    They were both eatable.

So for $2.50/can you can either have 11.9 oz of mush ham, or 15.3 oz of shredded/chunk ham.

I know what I will be stocking.

BTW I had DAK ham and eggs and tossed the SPAM

I know that we're supposed to never say never, but one of the reasons we prepare is to have choices. I will NEVER (by choice) stock/eat Spam, Ramin noodles or Vienna sausages. To each his own, but to me it's low grade dog food. If my cats won't eat vienna sausages, I sure ain't unless there literally are no other options. We have a few canned hams here that while aren't great, when seasoned enough they are doable. We do have a lot of canned tuna, chicken and crab. I have found little to no canned salmon that I like having being spoiled on fresh from living in the PNW in the past. My [2c]

    Good review and post AZ!

DAK hams are not US made they are made in Denmark.

I eat a single can of Vienna Sausages, with my one Glass of 2% Milk (if I have any) and my can of diet Dr Prepper, every morning, while I am reading my "Morning Take" and doing my Due Diligence on the Internet. Usually about 3 hours. Nothing like a little Protein in the Morning, along with a little Caffeine.

Recently compared Dak and Spam. No more Dak inside my pantry. Could not get enthused about it, tasted and looked like scraps glued together with jelly. Spam, whatever its faults, is a staple 'roun deez pahts.

I stock more SPAM then DAK, though they have a similar in taste, DAK's texture isn't the best.
So I like SPAM more than DAK.

By Danish girls in short shorts.

My chickens sure said the SPAM tasted good. I guess if you are rating it on it's slice ability, then SPAM would win, but I wouldn't want to make a sandwich out of it. SPAM has 180 calories per 2 oz serving in comparison to DAK's 100 calories, guess where those extra 80 calories come from, yup FAT.

Nothing wrong with fat calories. That is where your long term energy comes from. Carbs are the spark that lights the Diesel!!

Taste vary among individuals. In SHTF both would do but I like my Spam. Dak? I would rather eat five day old Texas roadkill in August. But that's just me.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

I've never had DAK... I feel kind of stupid now, I guess I always thought it was actually a canned ham.

I used to dice up Spam, toss it in a skillet in a bit of oil, and use it in fried rice. Pretty tasty! :)

I happen to like Vienna Sausages, original spam is a once in a while food (wife does not care for it), but DAK is not on my menu. A real canned ham is a treat, but DAK falls far short of the mark.

I love Spam: Hawaiians are ahead of the curve in their celebration of the canned meat.
Exerpt from this article =) now we we could get some decent recipes... I maight actually try it again.

Spam is even simpler a concoction than most pâtés—it almost passes Michael Pollan’s five-ingredient test. (In In Defense of Food, Pollan argues that, to avoid eating too many processed foods, you shouldn’t buy anything containing more than five ingredients.) I’m not here to argue that Spam’s secretly been a health food all these years, but consider this: Hot dogs, which Americans eat with abandon, containaround 15 ingredients, many of them obscure chemicals. Spam contains six: pork (shoulder and ham), salt, water, sugar, sodium nitrite, and potato starch. (The last of these forms the goo on Spam that grosses some people out.) Sodium nitrite, which preserves meat and prevents bacterial growth, has a bad rap but its effects on healtharen’t fully understood (and, in any event, we consume more nitrites from vegetables than from cured meats).

Never had DAK and it doesn't sound pleasant. I have SPAM but tend to stock different canned meats.

@BTPost I cannot believe that is your breakfast.

Lots of chunk chicken, deviled ham and just picked up some Roast beef. I think I can do lots with it. I am only stocking what we will eat.

BTW- this month @ Costco SPAM is $5.00 off per case limit 2.

Absolute LOVE the comments here. The review was great.

Vienna sausages for breakfast with coffee?? This is something I HAVE to try....prolly tomorrow.

One of my ultimate sandwiches is devilled ham spread over bread slathered with mayo and mustard, a few extremely thin slices of onion, a slice of fresh tomato, a slice of cheddar or American cheese, a quick grind of fresh pepper and eat'em'up! Love it! Potted meat works for this, too.

Spam vs Dak? I have read exhaustive reviews and done multiple years long studies. Yeah, the definite, unbiased winner for me is
