I got my last batch of Chanterelles today. Here are some tips FYI. I always have a pack with the basics for even short/easy trips. Let someone know your general location. Be cautious of where you’re stepping and what you’re grabbing onto. I once pulled over a rotted tree that I was using for leverage. Use a folding knife and never walk around even for a moment with it open. I scan the area and look for the easiest path to walk. I’ve had a couple of nasty spills before. I look for the color of the mushrooms on the forest floor. When you get into them there are usually partially hidden ones too. Most importantly is make sure you’re not getting any poisonous type. At least give the suspicious ones away.
You can cook them many ways but here’s what I do. I throw them in a pan and boil all of the water out of them. After draining them I’ll throw butter, garlic, and whatever else I like in the pan. After they’re cooked I’ll throw them in the oven for a bit on broil. Just my way. You’ll figure it out.
