A .22 that is a fragmenting bullet I just read it in a hunting magazine today and I thought it was interesting. As a defensive round this might be significant for those that rely on .22 caliber . I don't have the ammo or any ballistic gell but it would be interesting to see the results .
I don't know about anything brand new but they've had their "segmenting" .22lr since 2011. CCI Ammunition - Product Detail On CCI's website under "New Products" they have an A22 Magnum Gamepoint but is just an expanding bullet. CCI Ammunition - New Products
THE A22 Magnum Gamepoint but is just an expanding bullet........has this NOTE- "Use only in firearms having standard ANSI sporting barrel/chamber dimensions. " WHAT FIREARMS would not
Splitting into 3 wound channels makes the round far more lethal, and at the same time it penetrates less than a standard hollow point . In one sense as a defensive round in side a home ,hitting a wall it would probably not go much further then the dry wall after initial impact ,but in a body the damage to tissue might be significant unless the perp is wearing armor. It would certainly be worth some experimentation.
Some target .22LR barrels have "tighter" chamber dimensions and do not work well with "hyper-velocity" ammo like CCI Stingers etc... As for just what barrels in question....that I am not sure of...sorry. If memory serves ...I seem to think that the issue was mostly with some aftermarket barrels for the Ruger 10/22 Andy
Ooo. I have one of them aftermarket 10/22 barrels. Mine is made by gemtech, but I usually only shoot sub sonics with it.
