The aluminium casting hack is interesting. Although the melting point of steel is higher than aluminium, am not sure how effective food grade tin cans would be effective as a smelting crucible. It is a hack with potential given that other useful objects such as tent pegs, wedges, arrow heads etc could be cast.

Note that the improvised bottle water filter only removes some of the murky sediments...it does not sterilise the water...additional treatment such as boiling or chlorination will be needed to make the water potable.
