    Given the state of the art of construction in the 1880's in the Dakota's, the most practical house was a sod house. Cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and didn't burn down with every grass fire. Grand parents lived in one and my oldest uncle was born in one.

    My uncle grew up in a soddy, up on the Muscleshell in Montana... Warm in winter, cool in summer...
