Just my humble opinion, but I believe the Buck Mark from Browning is the best out of the box option for rimfire pistols. Great for teaching youth or new gun owners. It is however loud as hell and won't function properly with low velocity ammo. https://youtube.com/shorts/rfCp74nlqfE?si=fYGxfFF1ODnIm266
I had a 1964 model last year. Terrible shooter. Looked really good but that was it. No telling at the rounds put through it. Sold it. I went back to my SW revolver.
I had a Buckmark. It was an okay shooter, not great. Certainly no target pistol. Four inch barrel, Colt 1911-style grip. I find the Ruger pistol a better shooter.
Sure looks a lot like the Mark IV from Ruger too... I had a couple of the Rugers, liked them a lot, once I figured out how to strip and reassemble them, tricky. One I especially liked had a bull barrel. Now, I have a Ruger SR22, but I honestly never shoot it. I think it has been shot only once since I bought it 5-6 years ago. Nothing wrong with it, nice little gun, threaded barrel and in a different world and age, I would have given to some young shooter but in today's world...I don't think that's such a good idea.
High Standard Supermatic Citadel Citation, NUFF SAID, you got to go to Europe to get anything even close, like Walther or Hammerli, at three times the price, though a Smith& Wesson Mod 41 is a Hammerli that were sold state side in the late 80's and 90's! Ruger MK series, the "New" MK-IV being the very best, fixed all of the minor faults of what was kind of the gold standard of precision .22 pistols and prefered assassins tool! Colt Woodsman used to be pretty slick, not a bad pistol with reliability and consistency being a hallmark. Brownings Buckmark MATCH, I found them to be VERY fussy with ammo and powder fouling, fit and finish wasn't near as nice as others, regardless of price, one should expect better. Accuracy was good, but not great, needed LOTS of tuning and aftermarket upgrades to make them competitive with Ruger and High Standard, with the later needing NOTHING to run hard and win matches!
The Colt Woodsman was a great gun, but I only had one magazine for it. Spent years searching for another and finally found one, it cost $125, but worth it! I did find some cheap after-market magazines, but they were cheap after-market magazines that wouldn't feed.
Yup, and S&W licenced the design and sold them as the Mod 41, Some say the Smith was better, I say horsepucky!
