One of our friends has a tea farm. Trying this out. Big Island Volcano White Tea by Hanzo posted Jan 15, 2025 at 10:57
Did my master's thesis on low tech ways of growing rice. Japanese got involved and one magazine that dealt with Japanese farming equipment, all in Japanese of course, loaned me some engines, pumps, etc. They had all of this beautiful equipment for tea farming, from high tech to shears. Tea expert took me around a little. He explained that there were different varieties, different taste depending on soil, rainfall, time of year, altitude, etc. Then it differed how it was processed and at what temp and fermentation process, then of course, it was often blended as well. In that time early 1970's, the best tea often came in hand painted canisters, each one signed by the woman who painted it and often stylized. Waves, Mt. Fuji, etc, and everyone just a little different. Observed a tea ceremony and saw how the preparation and drinking of the tea also made a big difference. Came out with the view that tea was like fine art in a museum. Some of us are destined to observe it and enjoy it and let the real artists do their jobs. Ruined me in one sense, I never have been able to go back to Lipton's or the herbal teas. Thank you for sharing. It brought a lot of memories to this old man, most very pleasant I might add, Man selecting his house site and building his house in order to get a view of the beach and other islands for his tea ceremony. His great grandson was very proud of the place. He gave the honor of being able to see the view and observe the ceremony with all of its history in the house and the historical ceremony essentials, pots, cups, wash basin, etc.
Aloha Hanzo. Thank you for sharing that. I'm a tea neanderthal although I do pretty well with coffee.
I have a bag of their loose leaf Volcano White Tea that I got from Island Naturals the other day. High quali-tea!
I'm not sure if it's the same company, but these are the teas in my current circulation. I need to get more Mamaki. I haven't had much luck growing it in HPP, but I'm going to try to grow it in Volcano. Hawaii_Tea by Alanaana posted Jan 17, 2025 at 15:01
That's awesome, @duane. I try to put care and attention and even love when I make my coffee and tea and food. I don't know if it is true or not, but it seems to make it taste better and be healthier. Having that good intention when doing things is almost like a little prayer.
I grew up drinking tea. So I drink both tea and coffee. Found out from my wife that that bag was not from our friend's farm. I am thankful for that because the tea tasted quite weak.
Thank you for sharing this link! Vahdam is actually one of my favorite online places to get teas. They have a really nice vanilla, matcha powder. I also love their white tea sampler.
Volcano was our first choice. We put in an offer for a house in Volcano. But I pulled our offer when the home inspection found a leak behind the walls and we couldn't get a contractor to look at it for 6-12 months. I highly recommend getting the ultrasound option when getting a home inspection. It can see through walls. We would never have know about the leak without it, until too late. But with flying back and forth to Oahu weekly, HPP worked out better for us. For now. I do wish it was cooler here. Not bad now. Will miss you from the neighborhood.
