There are a few special tools needed for bike repair you should have . For the occasion repair you don't need the same quality as a bike repair shop . A few years back Aldi's actually had a very serviceable kit for $20 chain whip, pedal puller, the tools to remove the cassette and bottom bracket etc . They also have had a decent bike repair stand for $40 on occasion

Now if the time to invest in a quality bike / trailer and a very good chain/lock. You Tube is full of bike lock tests & demo on how thieves break/cut locks and so on. Best to look for the lock/chain you have in mind. Bike thieves - almost a damn industry....
