I received a new Becker BK-5 Magnum Camp Knife last week and pretty happy with it so far, that's actually with no testing. Bad case of pneumonia going on here. It's a big sucker with an eight inch blade, but it's only 3/16" across the spine. Narrower than my BK-7. It's longer, lighter blade makes it very quick and handy, other reports say batoning is easy but I'm not going to use it like a pry bar. Something I wouldn't hesitate to use my BK-7 for. Another nice thing is it came sharp! Shave my arm sharp! The other Beckers were kinda, sorta sharp. In the photo it makes the full sized Beretta 92 look like a pocket pistol!
That is one big ass knife! I don't know about "camp knife", looks more like machete or short sword. Hard to get a good camp or skinning knife, most are too thick, and since I want to cut stuff up or skin the animal, and not chop trees down, they are not exactly the ideal I am looking for.
I could do better than the Beretta! But I'll give the Sarge a little Professional Curtsy and wait to cast my lot until he has had the time to take the BK-5 on it's maiden run. First impressions are first impressions, many a wench has turned heads, but few are worth riding the river with. JMHO.
I have often looked at the BK5 but always end up going with something else when my wallet opens up. Interested to hear what you think of it in use. Probably the closest blades I have to it are Swamp Rat Taliwackers.... Or Busse Sarge7...
